Best mid-Atlantic Schools for Minority FA

Asking this for a classmates family. Mom is a nanny and has fully taken advantage of the advice and opportunities available for scholarship to our private school. They are Hispanic, US citizens, and the Mom wants more for her son than their local public HS, which is kind of marginal and has metal detectors.
Our schools HS placement counselor is not the best at boarding schools, as we live in DC area where there are plenty of private day schools. But, her son is not an athlete, not an amazing scholar – just a good one. Good kid, but nothing to make him stand out in a sea of type-A overachievers known in the DC area.
Anyone know of some second/third tier schools that might offer FA to a deserving kid and a family trying to give him more options in life?

Do a geographically limited search on boardingschoolreview, and maybe throw in a FA parameter as well. The usual suspects would include Episcopal, Mercersburg, St. Andrew’s, Peddie, and others, all having larger endowments to support need. St. James School and others nearby are lesser known, but may also prove to be a good match. Perhaps Woodberry for all-male, Westtown for Quaker, etc.

I don’t know anything about this school, but see that it is listed on the A Better Chance website. Church Farm School. Its mission statement says: “We seek boys for whom a Church Farm School education represents an extraordinary opportunity…We intentionally provide significant financial aid in order to welcome students from a wide range of economic circumstances. We embrace our unique ethnic, geographic and socio-economic diversity. We serve boys from a variety of family situations, particularly those with a single parent.”
I hope that others can give you more or more insightful replies but wanted to get the ball rolling.

George School might be worth a look.

ditto, twinsmama. George School.

Church Farm! George! Westtown! Solebury!
