Best non-commuter schools in Texas?

I graduate in 2010, live in Texas, and have been looking at a lot of colleges recently. Most of the ones I’ve looked at are commuter schools, but I want to go to a college where there is not so much commuting and has a campus life if that makes sense. I live in the DFW area and want to get far enough away to where I don’t have to live with my parents, but it won’t take like 14 hrs to drive home. We don’t have a lot of money so it’s going to have to be either public, or under lets say $15,000 for tuition a year. I’m in the top 15% of my class, and have a 1790 SAT (looking to get it up to a 1900 before the end of November.) So basically I’m looking for a college that follows these guidelines, is a decent school, and is one that I can get into lol. Any info or suggestions would be great!

Thanks

A&M in College Station? It’s a 4 hour drive from DFW, great school, And if you’re in the top 15% all you need to do is make sure your SAT 1 Score is a 1300 CR and M to be an automatic admit. Tuition’s like 7-8 thousand, room and boards about the same. You can get Scholarships, not to mention Financial Aid from them like crazy. Or a Job on Campus. What do you want to study?

For A&M - remember that while the in-state tuition may only be $8000, by the time you add in room/board, books, fees, etc…you’re talking more like $20,000.

UT (reach, since you’re not in the top 10%, which sucks)
A&M
Texas Tech
Texas State

If you’re willing to try other states:
U of Oklahoma is only 2.5 hours from the DFW area (I live here too, and strongly considered OU), but the out-of-state tuition is expensive
UArkansas is ~6 hour drive, but you can claim in-state tuition if you score above a certain score on the ACT or SAT, and it has a really beautiful campus

I would like to study accounting. 1300 is definately doable for CR and Math though. lol but it would be hard to go to A&M seeing as I bleed Orange. But UT isn’t right for me I don’t think.

Go to A&M or another local college for a year, work hard, and transfer into Texas or Rice afterwards. You could afford Texas with your budget and Rice would probably give you lots of financial aid if you can only afford 15k per year.
