best non conservatory performing arts universities?

I need help!!!
I am looking for a non conservatory college that has a good/great musical theater program that will allow me to double major in biochem or allow me to do pre med??? I know I’m picky but whats a person to do?

I would suggest that you visit the Musical Theater forum if you haven’t already. The users are fonts of information about all things musical theater.

At many colleges, you will end up in a double degree rather than a double major – the double degree typically takes 5-6 years.

Depending on your level of preparation, you might consider Oberlin or Lawrence – both conservatories but both support double degree programs. Lawrence does not have a musical theater degree but includes musical theater in its vocal performance program.

Take a look at Ithaca College too. Good luck.

Northwestern.

Check out the Musical Theater Certificate Program:

and the American Music Theater Project:
http://www.amtp.northwestern.edu/

The latter program is just 2 years old and turning out some great new productions.

I second the rec for Lawrence. There’s a five year program where you have get a double degree in music and another subject but even if you aren’t in the conservatory, the resources are still available to you.

Look at Muhlenberg. Very strong pre-med program with a well deserved reputation for placing graduates in med school. Very strong BA performing arts program (including acting, dance and voice) with a lot of musical theatre opportunities, a very modern performing arts complex and a professional musical theatre summer stock company attached to the school. The school is very flexible about structuring dual majors.
