Best place to order fruit baskets

My friend is waiting for a transplant and I want to send her a fruit basket. I want to use a company other than Harry and David. Can folks please give me a recommendation?

Edible Arrangements is very nice. I have sent gifts and rcvd from there. Fruit, chocolate, etc. ediblearrangements.com.

Look at the floral companies…teleflora maybe. They have fruit baskets too.

Any reason why you don’t want to use Harry and David?

The Fruit Company. http://www.thefruitcompany.com

@sevmom I can’t get that link to work.

@thumper1 I fixed it… http://www.thefruitcompany.com

Those look really good!!

We received Edible Arrangements about a week ago. It was cute but wouldn’t fit in our refrigerator. The first thing I had to do was disassemble it, which ruined the impact. The strawberries were pale, grapes mushy, melon hard. I realize this will vary depending on time of year and location, but we would much rather have received whole fruit that we could eat at our leisure. Edible Arrangements is best if consumed pretty quickly.

We also received a gift of boxed fruit from a Texas company: two each of two different pears, clementines, oranges, two kinds of apples, grapefruit. It was very nice quality. Unfortunately I can’t recall the company. Maybe a Texan will chime in.

@zipyourlips Not sure if this is the company you are thinking of but they are in Texas. I have ordered citrus gift boxes from them. Pittman and Davis. https://www.pittmandavis.com

I highly recommend going with seasonal fruit - it will be fresh and juicy. Florida Honeybells are supposed to be in season.

I agree about edible arrangements. The quality is kind of time of year dependent, and if there are not many people to eat it, much goes to waste.

sevmom, I’ve seen The Fruit Company’s gifts online and wondered about the quality. Have you tried them?

Costco has fruit baskets. http://www.costco.com/The-Fruit-Company%c2%ae-Heart-of-Hearts-Tower.product.100099601.html I’m not a big fan of fruit baskets unless you are sure the recipient will really appreciate it. For instance, most fruit baskets have red delicious apples, which are my least favorite and often the fruit must be eaten within a few days. I love the way fruit baskets look, but their my least favorite gifty thing to get.

We have received fruit from The Fruit Company. It was fine. If you know a local market in their area, I’m sure they will make a fruit basket and also may deliver it. We’ve also received Harry & David and generally been very happy with those fruit–generally pears.

Not thrilled with edible arrangements–very perishable, more so than uncut fruit (by nature).

No, I have not tried anything from The Fruit Company but do think their baskets look nice and they have good reviews.

I do think a fruit basket can be nice if it has other goodies, not just fruit with it-nuts, cookies, etc. But, I agree, good to know the recipient will like it, and definitely good if you know what kind of fruit she does like (so you can customize based on what kind of fruit she likes).

Sorry about your friend @Testingearly . Good luck to her with her transplant.

True about perishable nature of edible arrangements - but I still love it. I’d prefer to receive that to a basket of uncut fruit. You do have to diassemble and store uneaten fruit in containers in fridge of course. We receive lots of food gifts at work and it is always a big hit.

I love Edible Arrangements but only if the fruit can be eaten quickly as it is cut and perishable.
Other than that, I have used Stew Leonards and have been happy.

Forgot to mention! For honeybells and other Florida citrus, Hale’s has been mentioned in the Cafe a few times, and folks reviewed them positively.

Thank you all very much for all the reccomendations. I am very grateful. I decided to send a fruit because she can’t have any sugar and cannot be around flowers. I wanted something a little more unique than Harry and David. I am going to go with Pittman because I love cara cara orange, I am not sure if she’s ever had any. I will call them tomorrow to see if any of their assortments can come with Cara Cara.

sevmom, thanks for the suggestion of Pittman. That might be the company that shipped our (very nice) fruit.

OP, what a nice idea. Best wishes for your dear friend’s health.
