Anybody finding discounts TurboTax? We usually use Deluxe edition, with State and one eFile. We’ve always bought the CD, but I do get tired of all the packaging. I’d consider software download if others have had good experiences.

Note - I am not interested in TaxCut etc. We like using TurboTax import for taking advantage of prior year inputs.

Do a google search for “_______ coupon codes” with the blank being whatever discount code you are looking for. Generally the discounts can be found on the retailmenot.com web site.

Thanks for the quick reply, cal! I found that link earlier, and it got me considering the online product. I’ll use your hint to check for other deals.

Also a good product to use Staples coupons on. H seems to pick it up with a 25% off coupon every year. (We’ve never bought it at Costco, find better deals at staples).

We have been efiling directly through the turbotax website, no software needed. The price to file is comparable with no boxes, discs, driving, or shipping.

Thanks, blue. The old fashioned me feels like there should be CD to use if we ever needed it. But the website may have an even better way for backup.

NJ - I will watch for Staples coupons. You also reminded me that I sometimes get Office Depot coupons.

Our issue is we need to file NY & NJ state taxes, so we need to buy an extra state module, as you need to allocate income to the days worked in NYC…it’s a real PITA even when you are a CPA and know the routine.

Please, you have to do them in order…US, NYC, NY state, then NJ.

I use to travel at least 20% for work. It’s to a NJ resident’s benefit to move as much income as possible from NYC to NJ, as the tax rate is nearly half. I kept a calendar posted in my office that I marked every day I was out of the office. You do enter the stuff in the software and it does the calculation, but you need to manually count each day. And there is a difference between a NYC and NY state work day; had a few of those over the years.

So it’s time for me to decide whether to buy my Turbotax in a box or download. Import or last year’s info will work either way, right? Any other feedback?

We buy the box every year. Imports last years info just fine. Cheapest we’ve seen this year is $49.99. Last year we waited and got it for $39.99 at BJs with one of their coupons. Since we don’t have a college student applying for aid, I’ll just wait for a coupon!

Paid a friend to pick up Turbotax Premiere from Costco. Ended up paying $66 and change including tax & shipping.

Still much cheaper and more convenient than Staples considering the nearest store is 1.6 miles and the fastest way there is to actually walk due to the roads/mass transit availability in the area.

Still checking… The Turbotax online price looked great (Deluxe $30) til I realized it did not include state . DS worked in Boston, so we probably need CO and MA - $38 each. I thought box sets included on state. Hmm…maybe I’m thinking of the one free online filing.
