best profs/classes at williams?

<p>now that it is time for us to make our class selections, do any current williams students have any advice for new freshman? have you had any awesome classes/profs? any awful ones?</p>

<p>any field, but i would love to hear about economics, math, french.</p>

<p>which of these three (gazzalle, bradburd, rolleigh) is the best? …or should i wait for brainerd in the spring?</p>

<p>Political Science:

  1. Professor McAllister-- take his PSCI 120 class next spring, you won’t regret it
  2. Professor Lynch-- more or less our faculty expert on Middle Eastern politics, great instructor but not an easy grader</p>

<p>Math:
*You almost can’t go wrong, the department is so strong across the board

  1. Professor Loepp-- spunky, crazy, and one helluva fast teacher, but she’s great and knows her stuff
  2. Professor Devadoss-- can come off as arrogant, but in a hilarious way (at least I thought so). Also brilliant
    I haven’t taken that many math courses myself, but I’ve also heard very good things about Professor Burger</p>

<p>History:

  1. Professor Wong-- not the most challenging professor in the world, but you’ll get an interesting perspective on certain American historical topics
  2. Professor Dew-- expert on the American South, highly regarded by most students
  3. Professor Wood-- great guy for European history and military history, but intense (tons of reading, expects a lot)</p>

<p>Chinese:
*I can’t say enough good things about the Chinese department, they’re all so fantastic

  1. Professor Kubler-- if you take CHIN 101, he will be your instructor for most lectures. He’s a little quirky, but very approachable and knowledgable.
  2. Professor Nugent-- the instructor for CHIN 101’s writing section. What a funny guy, and an effective teacher too.</p>

<p>That’s about it for now. You’ll probably get a much better picture of things once you’re on campus and have a chance to talk to other students about profs. Also, once you have a unix account on WSO (the Williams Students Online website), you’ll be able to access FacTrak, which has tons of critiques and ratings on Williams faculty.</p>

<p>I really like Bradburd out of that list. He takes a little time to get used to (say about 3 classes) but after his humor grows on you and then you read his accomplishments and realize…he’s a big shot for a little guy.</p>
