Some schools I have heard that have great criminal justice programs are Northeastern, University of Maryland, George Washington, and the University of Delaware. But I have also heard a criminal justice major is not required to start a career with the FBI. Does anyone know of some schools that will give me a chance to pursue my dream of becoming an FBI agent? Right now I am a junior in high school and awaiting my March SAT scores as I begin my college search. If anyone can help me regarding the FBI, I would appreciate it.

You’d be better off with a degree in psychology or political science or even some hard science.

Look on the FBI website to find out what kind of backgrounds they are looking for in hiring agents.

West Virginia University. I read awhile back that they had some pretty specialized criminal justice kind of programs that the FBI had a part in developing

There are several different “entry paths” that allow you to qualify for application to the FBI. Those paths can be found here. http://www.fbijobs.gov/1111.asp

As for specific schools, I don’t know, but it seems schools with great academic reputations would be best, as would having a terminal degree for your area (ie - PhD in hard science, JD for law).

Hope this helps…

Id go to schools and study a social science and mayby go to law school. Pick scholls located in areas where the FBI has offices in.
example of possible schools:
- NYU
- American, GW, Gtown
- University of Miami
- Chicago, Northwestern
- Georgia Tech, Emory
- Boston University, Boston College
- Loyola (New Orleans), Tulane

Those are all good choices, although Loyola and Tulane would prob be the worst choices out of that list.

Two of the most desired majors for an FBI agent are languages/accounting, just to throw that out there.

I say UVA- remember Jodie Foster in “Silence of Lambs.” :)

U.S. Military Academy!

Check with the FBI for most desired majors, but time in the military would arguably be your best preparation.

I meant to say “time in the military in addition to college”. ROTC would be a good way to go to achieve that. And some ROTC kids get scholarships along the way.

Any more info?

Historically, the FBI loved Ivy League graduates. Perhaps this is changed. By the way, I am not aware of any FBI offices in Princeton NJ, Ithaca NY or Hanover NH.

I have only known one person who was actively recruited by the FBI. She is an Iraqi American (wonder why they were recruiting her!), got her BBA degree at Oregon State (Corvalis), speaks Arabic and English fluently. I think her physical attributes helped her too. She is very attractive, average height (5’5"), surprisingly strong for her size (she has a smallish frame and barely weighs 100 LBS but she can bench press more than most guys I know) and she is very fit. She decided not to take the offer because they told her they could move her at any time and she was settled in Portland.

I agree that a criminal justice major probably isn’t the best route. I would specialize in something you are particularly good at, like computer science, language (Arabic is obviously big to know now, Russian decades ago), or accounting.

Also, a college in D.C. would naturally be a good choice because of internship possibilities.

I’m good with numbers so accounting may be my best option here

why are tulane and loyola new orleans bad choices out of that list?

They are not bad choices, just out of all those, they are on the lower end. Loyola and Tulaney as I mentioned is still a great school for possiblity with the FBI. Reason why i stated they are the lower choice is because well, the FBI hq at new orleans is not as important as the others, In example (New York, D.C, Chicago and Miami). Those are defiantely in the east coast and most of the U.S, are the best cities to work for the FBI in. for several reasons, if u look at the pay scale, its higher in these cities for living standards and they are from what I have seen opening positions here more often.

probably because the FBI was started by ivy alumni! The Good Shepherd :)

streets of oakland???
