<p>My goal is to go to college in New York City. I plan on majoring in Computer Science. I’d be coming from Florida. My unweighted GPA is 3.62 and my weighted GPA is 3.98. That may go up because of a mess up with one of my grades but not for sure. I am currently taking 5 AP classes and doing an “Externship”, which is just the name for a high school internship, at a pretty large, local, IT company. I also participate in various community service activities, which include but are not limited to Teen Court, Key Club, Student Government Association, and National Honor Society. I also have a job at a movie theater in town. Some of the schools I was looking at in NYC were:
-NYU(obviously my reach)
-Fordham
-Pace University
-Manhattan College
-St. Johns University</p>
<p>I’ve only taken the SAT and ACT once, and I got a 1790 and 27 respectively. I plan to take each one at least one more time. My dilemma is that if I go to New York City for undergraduate school then I am going to need a large amount of scholarship money. This is why I’m applying to some schools that should probably only be my safeties.</p>
<p>Now, if I were going to go to school in Florida, then pretty much everything would be payed for for just about any public university I chose thanks to Florida’s Bright Futures Scholarship. It doesn’t cover everything, but my family has saved the money to cover the gap.</p>
<p>My question comes down to this. Should I leave Florida when everything will be payed for if I stay? If I were to stay I know I would be able to go to a better school but New York City is the place I want to be. Should location outweigh academics? Are the schools I listed even good for Computer Science? I know some of the schools I listed in NYC are great but there’s no chance I’d get a large amount of scholarship money from a target or reach school right? I feel like if I were to go to NYC then I would have to go to a school below my academic ability so that I could get enough scholarship money or be in a large amount of debt when I graduate. </p>
<p>What do you guys think I should do?</p>
