Best School Leadership Positions

I was just wondering for all the extracurricular activities you can do in school (newspaper, debate, student council, yearbook, clubs, etc.)…what do you guys think are the top positions to hold…like (newspaper ed in chief, debate team captain, yearbook ed in chief, nhs president, student council president) positions like those…which ones are the most highly coveted in terms of college admissions?

Debate captain, student body pres, anything that’s unique

If you are just entering high school and your school has a JROTC program, that reflects greatly on your overall character. Also leadership positions are almost a given your senior year.

all the ones you named are unfortunately mundane and trite, but i suppose they ARE good for admissions. i personally think founding a club or society looks the best.

how would you guys rank them from best to still good but not the best

Practically anything you do OUTSIDE of school will be worth more than a laundry list of school activities.

It depends from school to school In my school, student body prez is just a title.

Captain of the Beer Pong (aka Beirut) is by far the most prestigious; it’s the equivalence of having the President of Anheuser-Busch writes a letter of recommendation testifying to your godly accuracy and high alcoholic tolerance. It shows how dedicate you are to college social life. Furthermore, what college wouldn’t want a skill Beirut player in its school?

It really depends on what you put into it. The fact is, most leadership positions are “mundane and trite” according to conventional wisdom. If you’re president of the math club, that’s one thing. If you’re president of the math club AND you organized a math team tournament for other local schools, that’s quite different.

I agree with Reddune! As long as you can prove your club doesn’t use cheap beer, you should be fine!

On a side note, student body pres is seen as a great position in college, I am not sure how they view the high school presidents. I know most schools have scholarships set aside for transfer students that were SB Presidents at other universities. On the starting a club idea…don’t do it. Most colleges know how it easy it is to start a club and wouldn’t give it much weight. All you need is a faculty advisor and yourself, pretty cake. I would recommend volunteering at hospitals or somewhere you are interested in, colleges like the responsability and the fact that you are not getting paid.

All in all, beer pong champion/club captain will hold more then anything else!

All leadership positions are good; student body president, editor in chief of newspaper, and captain of varsity sport are particularly good. Of course, showing passion in any activity by developing your interest and getting recognized for your work is what really counts.

Don’t join the newspaper just because you want to lead something; lead the newspaper because you joined it and loved it.

Captain of a championship team is nice…something I’m hoping to do tomorrow with Scholastic bowl.

Leader of a group that holds your passion and commitment, especially if you can demonstrate that you effectively used organization, communication, and leadership skills.
