Working as a Canvass Director (Canvassing is the door-to-door activity of a political nature). I’d like to go to school to learn how to run campaigns, run canvassing operations, run non-profits, and general campaigning strategy.

In my current job, I train canvassers to go out and fund raise for the organization. In addition, they educate the public about the issue we’re advocating for. I’m in charge of all training, hire/fire, and administrative duties. I love it, and would love to go to school for it. I’m currently going into my senior year of college as an English major at a state school. I’d like to transfer and/or pursue my masters in this aspect of poli sci. What’s the best program/school for this?

Maybe look at the grad school thread? That sounds like a really interesting master’s option, but for undergrad I don’t think any specific school will give you this specific training. It would seem best to finish out your major in English, then look to specialize later on. I’d imagine any place with strong alumni associations connected to current politicians would help you, though I have no idea what those might be (GWU? Chicago? Berkeley?)

Generally those who run campaigns have law degrees. I have known 1 campaign manager for the Texas Governor who had a masters degree in polysci.

Those are skills which are learned on the job, not in a classroom. If you want to run a political campaign, start by working on campaigns as a volunteer, impress the campaign manager and get recommended for a paid position. Once you learn the field and demonstrate your competence, you may get the chance to run a campaign.

^^^

Very true…

But you do need some business skills, accounting skills, marketing skills, etc.
