Any suggestions to get all stuff in one shot? Is the quality on Campus Market acceptable?
First, consider whether you have enough supplies at home so that your kid could take some of them to college. This is by far the cheapest alternative.
You may be told to buy twin XL bedding. In fact, the only thing that needs to be XL is the fitted sheet. Everything else can be ordinary twin stuff that you already own.
Many of us will tell you off the bat to NOT buy from the companies associated with colleges. Most times, the college is associated with the company for fundraising purposes and the quality is not known to be good.
You can go to Target and buy everything you need in one swoop. Their XL Twin sheets are on sale this week! I think we bought a set of sheets and two pillow cases for about $20.
Target is probably the best combination of selection, price, & quality. Bed, Bath, & Beyond will be more costly (even with a coupon) but may have a broader selection, especially in bedding. Don’t know anyone who did it all on Amazon & shipped to school, but it’s probably not a bad idea, especially if your kid is going to school far away.
If you like to wash new towels or bedding before use, purchase that at home before your kid leaves or you’ll be doing laundry during move-in.
The Target sheets are mostly polyester. He sleeps on queen sized TempurPedic now.
Boy this is going to be a real adjustment.
Just got a flyer in the mail from BB&B - it is full of dorm bedding accessories stuff.
Speaking of Amazon, I outfitted my grad student’s apartment pretty much exclusively with stuff from Amazon, from cleaning supplies to bedding, all shipped to her apartment. Her only complaint was too many darn boxes to open! It was a good use of our Prime account.
We shopped online and found 100% cotton sheets. We had it shipped to us so we could wash and dry before he went to college. Since we were going up with him, we put it in our suitcases. Macy’s with coupon sometimes has OK prices in 100% cotton. Double check to see what size his bed will be so you get the correct size.
We saw both microfiber and jersey sheets at Target yesterday for XL Twin.
We always buy a feather/fiber bed topper to go on top of the dorm bed. Not Tempurpedic but helps.
We got the XL twin sheets from Target. They are cotton on the Target website. One thing that I purchased with my first DS, and now he’s giving it to this DS is one of the under the bed plastic tubs for their shoes. There is just not enough room in the closets for anything, and it was easy to put all those huge shoes in the tub to keep them organized for when they wanted them.
@abasket …how much was the topper you bought? Was it memory foam? I just bought a regular foam one from JCpenny for $40 on sale. Just couldn’t quite spring for the memory foam.
The ones we usually get are not memory foam or foam. Usually either feather or fiber. I haven’t bought yet for D2 going away this fall. The last two I think I got from BBB - MAYBE one from Kohls - although checking Kohl’s online they seemed really expensive. I think I saw one at BBB for $50 - plus then the coupon discount.
I like the Garnet Hill catalogue for XL twin sheets–great selection, good quality. I’m probably in a minority but I am not a fan of Target.
I agree Bromfield - we have had less luck this time around finding the XL…I don’t think it’s too early to start looking but there doesn’t seem to be the selection. So we bought the Target ones as a back up - we can return if we luck out with something better.
Target, Walmart, BBB, all have a huge selection of dorm “stuff”.
I will say…when our kids went to college, they took our old towels. If anyone was going to get new towels, it was going to be the parents! Because the towels were old, we didn’t care if they got lost or damaged.
We have sheets from Target. 100% cotton.
We got D’s sheets, bed bug protector, mattress pad, and feather down topper at BBB. The sheets are all cotton and have held up well. I bought her towels at Marshall’s Home Goods. Tuesday Morning is also a good place to look for dorm linens. I was surprised by the number of Twin XL items they had.
We just received what we ordered off the mailer from the school. I’ve laundered most of it, and it all looks pretty good! D did not want to go out shopping for everything, so this was an easy way to get the bedding, towels and the rest. We got their gel foam topper for 60 bucks, too. D and I are both happy.
You may want to consider quick dry towels. I know Target has them. We got Martha Stewart brand at Macy’s for less than ten bucks each. My kids go to different schools, but none of the dryers seem to work that well.
ETA, another place is Company Store. I’ve ordered some from there, including comforter, sheets, and towels.
We bought a lot at Marshall’s/Home Goods - a little better quality for about the same price as Target. We bought two beach towels for our S. He is tall and likes having a bigger towel. They lasted all four years and still look great!
I went to target as the selection was horrible and was more expensive than BB&B. BB&B also has shipping available tht will send it directly to your school and your dorm room or the Bed Bath and Beyond closest to your school for free.
There are supposed to be big sales online on Amazon and Walmart this Wednesday, that might be a good time to buy!
