Best student speeches you ever heard?

Whether it be for ASB, a club, or a major student organization, what types of speeches have you heard that were the most effective? Funny? Serious? Etc. Any ideas/advice on great speeches and great campaigns?

As a speech and debate competitor for several years, I’ve seen many.

Although this was before my time, my favorite speech ever is [the winning Original Oratory from the NFL Nationals in 1984](http://nfltv.org/2009/10/23/117/). (Click “Nationals 1984 - Original Oratory” in the right-hand bar and watch the speech beginning at 23:30.)

My sister’s validictorian speech. Truly inspirational.

The delivery is not the best (and the speaker has a speech impediment), but the content is much-needed criticism of the Christian culture that is closely tied with the league I competed in. Most speeches in the league, when taking a stand on politics or social principles, are invariably uncritical of their own “side” and just pessimistic about secularization of culture in general or the government encroaching on this or that. The speech I linked accomplishes what I think the ideal speech does: addressing something that’s controversial among the audience and challenging them to think differently about a difficult issue instead of telling them what they want to hear.

We had a great one last year from the new head girl as she was taking over. It was funny and relatable for all of us. The head girl this year tried to do something similar, but it just came out clich
