Best Things About Your Freshman Year

Hi Guys

So I’m in an international student living far far away from Yale. I’ve never visited Yale, or even Connecticut for that matter. I think it would be fun for me and for all other students entering the class of 2019 if current/alumni would list the most memorable thing/party/event of their freshman year and then we could compile all the answers together to make a cohesive list! Come on; it’ll be a good trip down memory lane for you guys! :DD

I’m a parent of a current student (rising sophomore). Maybe this is more low-key than you were looking for, but it was memorable for me. As a possibly over-involved parent, the first time DS became sick on campus (just a cold), I was unaccustomed to not taking care of him. It was wonderful to hear that classmate A had brought by some soup, classmate B had some Mucinex, and someone else came by with tea and honey. The reputation as a caring and welcoming community is earned in these low-key and everyday ways.

For events, my son enjoyed the Screw dances.

@IxnayBob aww thats so sweet

The first snow brings about a huge Old Campus snowball fight. Ours happened during reading period and it was a good stress-reliever. Everyone pulled their buddies out of the library, their studying hiding places – and everyone let off steam on old campus. My roommate put up our speakers to our windows that opened towards the OC and was cranking out Vivaldi’s “Winter” from the Four Seasons – every time I hear that, I’m reminded of that first big snowfall in December of my freshman year.
