Hi everyone! I saw that some schools, like PEA, have opened interview slots.
Is it too early? Does the time of the interview even matter?
It is not too early, and the timing of the interview does not matter to schools. Some schools’ interview slots fill up, so it can be difficult to get a spot late in the fall.
Since you are mentioning PEA, we were advised by an Admissions officer at PEA that is best to wait for the Fall to interview, so you child is more mature than they would be 6 months prior. When you are competing for spots with kids that reclass, it can’t hurt to wait.
I imagine this is particularly true if you have/are a rising 8th grader applying for 9th, matters less if you have/are a rising 10th grader applying for 11th.
The best time to interview is in the Fall after 1-2 months of 8th grade when they are more mature and can articulate well in the interview.
I’m applying as a reclassed sophmore, so from what you said it porbably doesn’t matter as much.
It can be hard to get an interview, so I would make simply getting an interview – not optimizing the timing – your priority.
AOs see all kinds of kids throughout the year. Realistically, if you are going to be too immature in September, it’s hard to understand how a few months will change that.
What you may want to do if you’re not used to talking with adults is get a little interview practice by scheduling your first interview or two at schools that are of less interest, are less competitive, or known for being very friendly.
Thank you for the advice. I ended up having my interview and it lasted for 1 hour. We talked so much, it was awesome. (I’m re-applying, so I already have some experience interviewing)
