What are the schools with great business under-grad that I should be looking at? That i can afford, that i can get into and get a good career afterwards. any ideas. thanks guys. p.s. preferrably private schools but i’ll take w/e i can get.

east coast: penn, nyu, unc chapel hill, emory, uva
mid-west: michigan, indiana, illinois
west coast: berkeley, usc

wow, those schools all sound great, but can I get into them with my low-ish test scores? Does being low income give me an advantage?

also, what would be schools in these categories for me:
reach-
fit-
safety-

thanks guys.

Wharton (actually UPenn) will give you a full ride if your parents make less than $50k or something like that.

By the way, Wharton’s a reach for anybody.

Given that you come from a single parent home and that you come from a low income household, you are bound to get hefty amounts of FA. Given your credentials (Valedictorian, 4.0 GPA etc…) and your solid SAT/ACT scores (try to raise your Math SAT to 680+), you definitely stand a decent chance at getting into all of the schools recommended.

wharton doesn’t always give you a full ride w/ less than 50k, i found that out the hard way… but try it anyway, it would be nice to have another arkansan here! (where at in AR btw)

just try it, my scores were fairly similar and i got in on a transfer

edit: didn’t take SAT II’s either.

Sorry to not respond to your question earlier Frosty27. I’m from Ratcliff, AR. close about 45 min. east of Ft. Smith. Where are you from? Hopefully I can get into a good school with my specs. i’ll def. try no matter what.

ok new question…
if I enter into the business school of a university, do i have to decide right then which major i want (either marketing or MIS)

do you only have 2 years of a foreign language? i think quite a few top schools require you have 3 years and recommend 4 years… but if your school doesn’t offer third year foreign language that would be a really good excuse…

also since you’re in Arkansas i was wondering if Arkansas gave good financial aid to out of state kids? I’m out of state and the King Fahd Center for Islamic Studies (or w/e it’s called) at the University of Arkansas caught my eye… can’t afford to attend there without loads of financial aid though lol

Ft. Smith  Graduated from greenwood in 05.

and no, you don’t necessarily have to decide, but declaring one is still a good idea (they can change the requirements on you, so it’s best to at least declare one and lock in one set of reqs, you can change it later). Changing is a pretty easy process considering you have to take core requirements anywhere first.

Datkid, Arkansas has some great financial aid provided you get the materials in early. What state are you in? I know you can get an automatic in-state tuition if you’re from arkansas (obviously), oklahoma, texas, and i think missouri as well. I think with an ACT of 30+ they also waive the tuition I believe. Talk to Bryan Hembree. He’s one of the guys in charge of the scholarship dept. and one of the nicest people by far I’ve dealt with. He’ll bend over backwards to help the students. Any other questions PM me, i don’t want to hijack the thread more than it already has been.
