<p>First of all…very few firms actually hire into Mergers and Acquisitions directly. You get acccepted to the firm and then they let you meet all the groups and you make preferences (they make preferences as well) - then they put you into a group accordingly.</p>
<p>Second of all, even if you are not in the official M and A group you will get exposure to M and A in an industry group as well - which some people prefer as they aren’t stuck learning such a niche product area.</p>
