Best Undergraduate Programs in International Affairs/Relations?

Hello everyone,

I’ve still got quite a bit of time left before I begin the college application process, but I just wanted to get an idea of which universities I should set my sight on/work towards.

Which universities besides Georgetown are known for their good International Affairs/Relations undergraduate programs?

American Univ. and Tufts both have pretty great reputations. On the west coast, Stanford obviously, but also Pitzer College and Claremont McKenna College. (The latter have lower profiles, but awesome programs, and have a fairly impressive number of grads receiving Fulbrights and other internationally-oriented awards and experiences).

Due to funds, I am only looking at public universities in Texas and Arkansas. Which of these schools would be best for undergraduate International Relations?

University of Texas
Texas A&M
University of Arkansas
Texas State University

Herfyjo, out of those four, I would pick TAMU, mainly because theirs is the only Poli Sci program out of the four that I have heard anything about. This is if my only criteria was “quality/reputation” however.

Of those four, I would pick Texas because it has the best international reputation, which is really important in the international relations field. However, if I were you, I wouldn’t limit your search based on the sticker prices of different colleges. Colleges that are strong in IR (such as princeton, tufts, georgetown, and claremont mckenna) offer really great financial aid packages that make it affordable for everyone. Apply to them, and the worst case scenario is you end up telling them “no.”

A rising star in recognition for international studies is the Croft Institute at Ole Miss. Scoff if you want, but the program is competitive, one of the most comprehensive, and feeding into the country’s most impressive graduate/professional schools. I was a student dead set on the Ivy League or the likes of Georgetown and Duke… got in - couldn’t afford it. I’ve been more than academically challenged in the program, plus you can get one of the best college experiences in the country at Ole Miss. (Ole Miss also has comparatively low OOS tuition). Something to think about: we are also home to the Chinese Flagship program and one of the nations top public honors colleges.
