What is the best upperclass dorm for a Tisch student? They all seem far away from Tisch and none with meal plans. Any suggestions are appreciated!

gramercy because it’s gramercy. who cares about distance when you live in gramercy

and why would you need a meal plan in an upperclass dorm

Most of the upperclassmen dorms are actually apartments that come with their own full kitchen. So reliance on a meal plan isn’t really necessary.

Having said that, I did have a meal plan during my entire time at NYU. It’s really not as difficult as you think. I lived in one of the furthest away dorms (at the time), which was in the 50’s off 1st ave, pretty far from both the Tisch building, and my training studio in Chelsea. I just utilized my meal plan when I was on campus, or just walked over to a dining hall after my studio day was over. No it wasn’t as convenient as popping down stairs in my sweats, but it doesn’t need to be when you have access to both a meal plan AND a kitchen in your own apartment.

As far as what the “best” dorm is? NYU has some pretty incredible housing available for upperclassmen, and frankly what is “best” just comes down to personal preference. I LOVED my second “dorm”, called Lyden House, a former long-stay luxury hotel, which is no longer with NYU. It was, as mentioned prior, also pretty far away from campus. I had no problem living well away from the main NYU campus. That’s a personal preference. But keep in mind that when you live in NYC, nothing is really “far” away.

If you feel you really need to be in pretty close proximity to the main campus, Alumni Hall, Brittany, and the 7th street dorm are the closest to Tisch.
