I apologize for the long post and any confusion that may come with it!
I need advice regarding my major and the most necessary way to prepare for graduation. Besides interning and developing a portfolio, what are some things art students should keep in mind before graduating?
I am currently in my third year studying computer animation and illustration. I knew from day one that job searching upon graduation will be tough, so I began interning since freshmen year of college. I am on my 5th internship now, but still feel anxious about my chances of employment. I realize that one of my biggest concerns is my lack of knowledge in the business side to what I do. After some thinking, I’m considering applying to part time jobs relating to business or sales in order to add more than just art related experiences on my resume. This way, I can probably make more than the low paid internships I’ve done and save up money for myself so I can graduate somewhat comfortably. I am very grateful for any advice concerning this. Is it better for me, a fine arts major, to balance experiences relating to business and art in order to enhance my resume? Or would it be considered wrong for me to seek back up plans as it may cause me to fight less in my field for the job I want? I just want to be responsible and think about things others in my major don’t really consider.
Some extra notes about myself; I will not be graduating with school loans or debt, and my car is almost paid off. S these are not issues I will have to worry about, therefore pushing me to want to start saving up now as I can take advantage of my lack of bills.
