Best way to send supplemental documents?

I want to send both my Resume/Activities List and scientific research paper (or just abstract) to the colleges I am interested in. I will also be sending additional (non-teacher) letters of recommendation. From what I understand, I have several ways to do this.

Additional Info section on Common App – Weird formatting, so I don’t think I’m going to go with this one

Snail Mail

Email attachment

Fax

Maybe this is a stupid question and I am just paranoid, but is one of these ways better than the others as far as making sure the supplemental materials I send get put in my specific file in the admissions office?

Also, is there a way to check that this happens?

Any input would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Additional Info - The only way to ensure that your supplemental materials reach the college adcoms

Snail Mail - No receipt of acceptance, and it may take weeks to process & update

Email attachment - Many colleges do NOT open email attachments due to security protocols

Fax - Same as #2, but securer

Do not send in a resume unless the colleges ask you to or say its allowed. They don’t want to see this. I wouldn’t send a research abstract either unless they ask or you ask them first. Colleges do not want extra documents to read. The non-teacher rec should be mailed. I would do the same with the research abstract if they allow you to send it. An activities list (extending your activities section) would be allowed and should go in the additional information.

RE: non-teacher LOR. You can invite a non-teacher to submit the LOR via Common App, assuming the college accepts submissions of additional LORs. You extend the invite to the letter writer via CA, and the letter writer uploads the LOR directly to the CA system. You will be able to track progress via CA.

One of the schools to which my son applied last year did request a resume but the school’s CA did not have a place to upload additional documents. Since last year’s ED round suffered many CA glitches, the local admissions rep had my son email his resume. Who knows if it ever made its way to this CA file.

@salemgray: the saying is: The thicker the file, the thicker the kid. Listen to guineagirl. Colleges DON’T want to read your collection of nice letters and thick research papers.

Submit only ONE non-teacher recommendation. You’re not a special case.
