best way to study w/out final year?

hi all,
a friend of mine is taking the chem this november. he will start the final year of chemistry in the curriculum in september. he’s been doing practise tests and stuff but he makes mistakes because some of the foundational understanding is missing.

i was hoping some of you had some advice on how to build this understanding. do the sat study guides help in any respect? should he read through the curriculum textbooks? any input is appreciated. thank you!

I wouldn’t read through the entire book unless he’s up to it. It won’t hurt, just might be too much. The prep guides definitely help, like Barron’s, PR, etc. although I didn’t take chem so I don’t know which is best.
