Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

yeah i just got a call from penn! it was pretty cool but i didn’t have any questions so i was like ummmmmmm…

OK - My s got a call back to SUNY Purchase in the audition process, then 2 weeks later a curt rejection letter, then 1 week after that an email reminding him to make an audition appointment!!! The school doesn’t have its act together!

Harvard’s rejection letter is always nice.

Well some of us USC applicants who are black and were rejected got an email to apply for a scholarship there, then an email saying an error, than an official apology.

it was on the website, actually.

hows nyu’s rejection letter?

Peabody’s rejection letter was mean, in my opinion. The first line was “We hate sending rejection letters, and I’m sure you hate receiving them” then it went on to say how my “musical development” was not up to par and “At the school you plan to attend, you’ll develop much quicker with peers at the same developmental level as you” and, seriously, “I hope you were accepted to other schools.”

I was like “To hell wit ya’ll” because I’m going to princeton.

Same here! When Harvard, Yale, U Penn Wharton, and Stanford all rejected me, I was like “Well screw you!” because I’m going to Princeton, my first choice all along! :D

My daughter had me check her acceptance/rejection on line since she couldn’t bear to do it herself. She had been deferred earlier on ED, and knew it was a long shot, but …

She could tell by my face that it was a rejection. I never bothered to read it past the so sorry part…

When the envelope came 2 days later she tossed it in the trash without bothering to open it along with another IVY rejection envelope, and said screw you—I’m going to xxxxxx anyway (her number one choice LAC).

so neither of us really bothered to see what the rejection letters said

BTW----does anyone get rejected from ED at any ivy? Does everyone just get deferred (or of course accepted)??

My Amherst acceptance came in the most lame envelope ever - with the UPS logo and red stripes and an “Extremely Urgent” note on the side. It’s just natural b/c I’m an intel and intels get their acceptances via express mail, which uses the courier company’s envelopes. Still, they were nice enough to send me an email notifying me I was gonna get an express package. I laughed and cried like crazy when I read the email, though admittedly it lowered the suspense a lot (especially when I got 5 rejections in a row afterwards).
There’s a congrats note inside the pack which I can’t make out if it was personalized or not. It did say something about “enthusiasm” and “support”, and I guess sending in 7 rec letters IS enthusiasm;) The signature is in violet ink and I also failed to decide if it was hand-signed. Amherst’s logo is also in violet/purple so it’s easy to just print the signature as well. Anyway, why sweat the small stuff? I LOVE AMHERST!!!

yes, people get rejected ed at ivies. at least, i remember from the yale scea (given, it was ea not ed) results post here that some people did get rejected. maybe for ed schools it’s different but i’d assume they would reject some.

wow i just got a call from a Columbia student. She was really nice and i asked her a lot of questions. It was raelly nice.

Colgate FedExs their acceptance packages, and you have to be home to sign for it. SO my mail man had to try three times, and it was on it’s way back to colgate before I got to pick it up at the fedex station.

I’m sorry. That sucks. Well congratulations on getting into Colgate though…

Just wanted to let you all know how muc this thread has made me laugh. It’s almost made me look forward to getting a few interesting acceptance/rejection letters next year.

BTW – that would prolly be totally awesome syrup.

haha did anybody see seth’s big rejection letter? He got his letter from brown and it was like the huge 9X11 envelope… and then he opened it and it was a rejection! It was really pathetic. And since i was actually rejected from Brown myself, i know they don’t send it in a big envelope…

^^The admissions staff must have been grumpy that day.

And no parents around to go, well, let me see? And the party the NIGHT everyone got their letter where everyone was supposed to wear the college sweatshirt? HAHAHAHHAHA

After reading the posts on this site, I can’t imagine a get together any more awkward than that

(Okay my Ds were watching the oc and I couldn’t help but get sucked in…

just received UVa’s admission letter, very personal! They wrote sth beneath the typings and said they thought my essay was wonderful and my experience with a hedge fund would position me well in their commerce program. I’m definitely going there now!

Princeton’s rejection letter is very beautifully written.
