Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

macalester have “accepted” written along two sides fo the envelope, on both sides.

reed i hate. horrible email that leads you to hope you might be accepted, must click a link, then they play this really long intro thing for 5mins until finally says “congratulations”. i know you end up getting in, but you dotn know whether you have for certain all this time. its very annoying.

i knew i got into wesleyan university and haverford (i think) because fed ex and ups sent me emails of when to expect my package weighing 2lbs to arrive :D

brown rejection letter was very nice

MIT acceptance letter had a comma error in it…the english person deep inside of me cringed. Other than that, the package was cool though…i got a coupon…those are fun.

JHU and Cornell had good packages…actually Cornell had a very good package. I don’t want to go there, but it made me look at the school one last time anyways…so if anyone was on the fence, it might have swayed them.

Sidenote: My mom just got accepted into Gordon nursing school here in GA, and her acceptance letter was in a teeny envelope, so she thought she got rejected at first. I thought that was mean. If you’re in, it should be a big envelope, right?

i like stanford’s emphasis on poetry and celebrating your hard work, and i like yale’s celebratory poster, penant and tshirt.

Tulane mispelled my name on their acceptance letter. I sort of couldn’t get past that.

Columbia’s rejection letter made me cry. It was really comforting but at the same time really depressing.

I didn’t apply to MIT, and I know their rejection letter didn’t look like this, but one of the adcoms wrote an absolutely heartwrenching blog about having to reject 87% of his applicants.
http://ben.mitblogs.com/archives/2006/03/its_more_than_a.html

I thought Georgetown’s rejection letter could have been kinder…just two paragraphs that seemed cold and distant…
But, JHU’s acceptance was nice…I liked the poster and the bumper sticker! I’m not going there, but it was very thoughtful…

USC has great writers writing those letters. The acceptance made me cry, it really broght your self esteem up a notch, and the rejection was extremely nice too (I read it). USC also has a great attention to the applicants, in my experience. I recieved seven letters (not including the decision) from the time I sent my application, it was as if they were telling me everytime they did something with my application. I remmember thinking I would not hate them even if I got rejected because they were so nice, since I had a terrible experience with NYU…nothing (and they promised a written recieptof my application through the mail that never arrived) and I recieved my rejection two months late…

Renssealear’s waitlist letter was a bit mean. It did not make me feel good when they said that they rarely use the waitlist.

^^^ Ben Jones is my hero.

Rice’s rejection letter was pretty cold. and their online status website too! they didnt even have a letter on the website, it just featured two words: admission denied. That hurt.

Providence College acceptance must be the weirdest of the lot:
Dear abc,

We hope that all is well with you. On 17 March, the Office of Admission of Providence College mailed our admission application decision by way of UPS. The tracking number is 1ZE039616698820519. It is Our hope that you would received decision packet soon.

We can say “Congratulations!” You are in invited to join the Providence College Class of 2010. We have attached, in .pdf format, copies of the letter and form we sent.

If there are any questions, fell free to be in contact with Mr. Raúl A. Fonts, Senior Dean of Admission. His e-mail address is rfonts @providence.edu.

Sincerely,

The Admission Staff

On the other hand, Reed’s was the most thought provoking:

Dear abc,

I regret to inform you that the Reed College Admission Committee has
decided not to accept your application for fall 2006 admission.

Each year there are many more applicants for admission to Reed than there are spaces available in the incoming class. This year, in fact, we
received a record 3,052 applications for a freshman class of 345. Our
decision reflects Reed’s institutional needs as much, if not more, than it
rules negatively on your credentials. Inevitably, a significant number of
applicants who might have been good students in our classrooms and
contributing members of our community must be turned down to preserve the intimate brand of education for which we are known.

On behalf of the admission committee, let me say that I appreciate the time and effort you have…

Nice way to put: “We cannot accomodate you because you were not good enough to be among the chosen lot!”

Rice’s acceptance package is awesome. The blue with silver crest was elegance personified

I didn’t get rejected anywhere because I only applied to 3 schools (1 of which I got in ED and had already sent the other 2 apps out). Tulane’s acceptance was kind of weird. I don’t remember even FINISHING the application. I started getting congrats emails for weeks before I got the letter- and then it was only just one letter.

Brandeis’s scared the living crap out of me. I got in ED and they just sent one skinny envelope. I figured I didn’t get in and started freaking out and crying without even opening it. My younger brother opened it on his way to get me chocolate ice cream (he’s so thoughtful) when he saw I actually did get in. Damn those admissions people and their trickster ways!

I don’t remember what NYU’s acceptance was. Just normal, I think.

Y’know, one or two of the grad schools I applied to sent little crappy envelopes. Based on my undergrad experience, I assumed that meant they were dingers. Nope. Both were “you’re in” letters.

W…T…flyingpigmonkey?

Jerks. Oh well. I got in anyway, but I just want you to know that I feel your pain.

The USC rejection letter is impressive- you don’t feel like you’re getting rejected stangely.

Its alright I know a guy at my school who got an acceptance letter from NC State (his first choice) to then soon after that recieve a letter saying the previous letter was a mistake and that he actually hadnt been accepted. That = the worst thing that could possibly happen emotionally.

ugh this threa is giving me butter flies

this time next year ill be contributing

best is definitely Notre Dame’s.

big blue folder with the words WELCOME HOME on the front, loved it.
