Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

American University had the COOLEST acceptance email.
It was this whole video!
There was a mailbox, and this letter slowly came out of it, and all of a sudden it said CONGRATULATIONS! and there was all this confetti, plus a dancing eagle.
Best acceptance email EVER.

i really liked cal poly slo’s it was a video too and it was just these kids saying congratulatons. i didnt really hear the rest because i was screaming.

the most disappointing though were the UC’s. you had to go to their website, sign in, and then click the “application status” button. it was like this:
Application status: denied

***.

^ Agreed. Or “Application Status: Not Admitted.”

Disappointing.

WUSTL’s priority mail acceptance packet was pretty cool - even though I already knew I was in via online. It was rather random to see it sitting on my front porch when I had gone out to get the mail.

UD’s was really nice as well (make’s me feel guilty that I don’t want to go there).

wow that was the best paragraph ever. i hope to get one of those one day

Haha, I got that American University acceptance e-mail as well. I thought it was very corny, but I was so happy to have such a corny, mass-distributed flash video. XD

Here’s the Stanford Early Action rejection letter for the class of 2012

Dear John Smith,

The Office of Undergraduate Admission regrets to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to Stanford University. The overall quality of our applicant pool and relatively small size of our freshman class means that we disappoint the vast majority of our applicants each year. We acknowledge your strong interest in Stanford, which makes the task of sending you this news especially difficult.

You will find below answers to the most commonly asked questions about the Restrictive Early Action process at Stanford. I hope it will help answer some of the questions you may have about our decision. Please be aware that we are not able to consider appeals to this decision.

John, you are a fine student with solid support from your teachers and advisors. I am confident that you will enjoy great success in your undergraduate education. I only wish we had room for everyone with talent and energy like yours.

As a more formal notice of our admission decision, we have mailed you a letter copy of this email.

With best wishes for an outstanding undergraduate experience,

Richard H. Shaw

Dean of Admission and Financial Aid

Enclosure

In case you still don’t believe us, we’ve mailed your rejection in paper just so you can read it again.

hahaha exactly

best part of WUSTL’s priority decision was that they told you that they were going to pay for you to go visit.

The actual acceptance letter (not the priority one):

Dear ******,

Congratulations! We are delighted to offer you admission tot eh College of Arts & Sciences at Washington University. You and your family should be very proud of your accomplishments. You were selected from more than 22,000 applicants for our freshman class of approximately 1,350. We are confident that you will be an outstanding member of the Washington University community.

To accept this offer of admission and ensure a place in our freshman class, please take some time to review the information in this packet, complete the enclaosed enrollment form, and return it to our office postmarked no later than May 1, 2008. Enclosed you will find informationon financing from Student Financial Services. This information describes various options for the payment of tuition and room and board. If you applied for financial assistance, your financial assistance notification will arrive in a few days. Please be sure to share all financial information with your family.

Our experience has shown that students who remain academically engaged through the conclusion of their senior year, adjust more readily when they enroll at Washington University. Your admission to the University is, therefore, contingent upon the successful completion of your senior year. We would like to see your academic performance continue at the same level of excellence you have exhibited up to this point. You must also complete the classes in which you are currently enrolled. Please be sure to send us final transcripts when they are available.

Finally, welcome to the Washington University community. Your will find that our faculty and students work together extraordinarily well, and that the community of individuals at this institution is a very special group of people. We look forward to greeting you on our campus in August.

Have a great and successful conclusion to your senior year!

Sincerely,

Nanette H. Tarbouni

best part of that letter - it’s a real signature!!!
quick question - does anyone else think that acceptance statistic is kinda low for WUSTL - 1,350 out of 22,000 is only around 6% acceptance.

I was dissapointed when I saw this thin little UPS envelope from Wash U. I happened to get fat envelopes from U Miami and U Rochester on the same day, so I was like, “Eh, fine Wash U, if you want to be that way…” Then I looked at said thin little envelope, and I realized it was express mail. So there were two possibilites:
a) They were trying to crush my hopes in as expedient a manner as possible
b) Something funky was up
So I open it, and there’s a little acceptance letter that explains they want me to go to Multicultural Day, and they needed to get the letter out early. I was so thrilled, I almost punched my wall on accident.

ohakkila, 1350 will enroll out of the ~4500 they accept.

AHAHAHAAHAHAH!!!

Georgia Tech’s acceptance letter was sort of cold, but the packet was nice.

UGA had a decent letter, and a really nice packet. It even included a packet about the history of the school along with pictures of it throughout the years. That was a neat way of letting you get to know the school.

Clemson had a nice simple package that made you feel wanted. The letter was nice. The only down side was what was included with it. It could have been more. Like I said though, it did make you feel wanted. :)

I’m hoping I’ll be able to comment on UVA’s in about 10 days. :)

Marist’s acceptance letter is really nice. This is my favorite part:

“The Admission Committee was impressed with your credentials - both personal and academic - and enthusiastically endorsed your admission to the College for September 2008.”

It made me feel very warm and wanted…it’s sad that i doubt i will be attending =/

I wanna say that any rejection letter reads bitter…=_=

First and foremost, I loved Ithaca College’s acceptance package. As has been described, it’s got a huge picture of students holding up letters and balloons that says “YOU’RE IN!” on the front. Not very subtle in the least. Ithaca was and remains my number one choice school, so I was pretty psyched, but that being said it was an academic safety and the only thing that surprised me was being accepted in December. I wasn’t aware of such a thing as rolling admissions at the time.

Inside the package was very colorful and offered a lot more information about the school. The letter was pretty short and impersonal, but I also got a letter from the particular school I’m in and a very nice scholarship letter, so that made up for it.

As for Binghamton University, honestly kind of indifferent here. The envelope isn’t in any way subtle (“You’re the 1 we want”), and I got a tiny little viewbook and a garish green and white sheet that screams at me to send in my deposit. The acceptance letter was really nice though.

University at Buffalo sent a nice navy folder, but inside it just had some letters on heavy paper. The acceptance letter is very poorly worded and very choppy, so it seems like different copypasta sentences were thrown in.

Overall, not surprisingly the private school package was a lot nicer than the state school ones.

I would say USC has the nicest admission package so far.

It had a certificate and parking passes for Preview USC. Also, it had a bumper sticker and thick folder.

the deans honor scholarship letter from tulane was in a leather-bound binder with tulane university imprinted in gold on the front and a legal pad inside

at tulanes honors weekend i saw the binders in the gift shop for $15.99

MIT’s rejection letter came off as insincere “We are SO sorry we weren’t able to offer you a place in our class of 2012”. Yeah, but I bet they weren’t “SO sorry” when they got my friggin application fee.
