I skipped to the end so sorry if this was mentioned. Worst rejection is Stanford EA. They send you an email telling you that you didn’t make it and then at the bottom say they won’t be sending you an actual letter because that would make it even worse. Ha ha like I didn’t cry enough.

wow really?! that’s harsh! Glad I’m not applying there! ;-)

Personally I think a deferrall letter is worse than a rejection. Although I may think that because i havent received a rejection yet but a lot of deferrals.

lol, props to MIT for the “:-)”

The University of St. Thomas’s acceptance letter was a little disappointing. It came in a little card (I thought it was a Christmas card at first) and then I saw it said Congratulations on the back. The card just says “The Admissions Committee of the University of St. Thomas is pleased to announce your acceptance to the Class of 2013” and it has some graduation hat confetti. In tiny print it says “Enrollment information to follow”. Nice St. Thomas, nice.

the worst rejection would be:
“YES!” You…

dont have to pay for college!
because you’re not getting in!

here’s what you should do:
- celebrate
- go fill out an application for mcdonalds, arbys or subway
- MOVE ON. you just did nto kiss my butt well enough. I am so sorry.

thank you,
“adcom”

worst acceptance:

“NO” you…

HAVE NOT BEEN REJECTED.
now pay us our money :)

thank you,
“adcom”

Georgetown’s deferral letter was awfully cold.

what did it say?

PSU rejection came in a big envelope. D was so excited then… ummm, NO! But we’ll take you at a lesser campus, please try again. Ugh. I had to pick her up off the floor!

An interesting two thread discussion from last year’s admission’s cycle about Peabody’s rejection letter:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/488020-peabody-still-waiting.html
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/490952-response-peabody-re-letter.html

And this is from an applicant pool of music aspirants who by nature are used to dealing with rejection.

I’d be curious as to what, if any changes, Peabody incorporates into this year’s letter.

Emersons letter of rejection was basically " You are wonderful, talented, you would add so much to our campus and we would be soooo lucky to have you, but we don’t want you. Good luck getting into college though! Have a wonderful life!"

Ouch.

/agree with phoenixtree. Georgetown’s Deferral made you feel like a number :P

I just want a letter that says “Accepted” or “Rejected”. It doesn’t need anything else. I don’t think I’m that pumped for it either way, to any of my colleges… meh

Univeristy of Wisconsin is evil… i get this big envelope in the mail and i am like YEAH! rip it open and see the word postponed! really now? they had to send a big envelope for a defferal? ouch!..at least they had a nice defferal letter with a whole other sheet talking about postponment and an envelope for mid-year grades…binghampton also defffered me but were *******s about it…just a little short letter that basically says you get to wait becasue we cant make upour minds

What is it with “postponed”? Minnesota is doing that, too. Add a new word to the admissions lexicon!

This was a few years ago (my son is a sophomore in college now) but I still remember how impressed we both were his acceptance letter from Washington & Jefferson. It not only had a personal note from the VP but commented on how impressed they were with one of his extracurricular activities- in enough detail that you knew he actually knew who he was writing to!

On average, about how long does it take letters to be sent out? I am only wanting to get in to Goucher, a small LAC so that shouldn’t take that long right?

omg the caltech admissions letter made me feel warm and fuzzy it was really pretty and had a handwritten note and the admissions office kept having people call me to answer my questions X)

I just got accepted into my safety school. Their admissions letter wasn’t enthusiastic at all. At least my other admissions letters sounded like they were excited to accept me. I guess I’m definitely not going there!

ana ivanovic,

yea the caltech admissions officers are pretty nice–like if you talk to them they’ll actually know who you are and remember details from your app…
also, somewhat surprisingly: there are hot guys with sixpacks attending Caltech. and people that look like jocks. =P
