I liked Claremont Mckenna and Pomonas’ acceptance letter, they both had personal notes and were signed by the dean and were very detailed. Also, Pomona is sending a shirt, but i think that is because i accepted their offer.

MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY-MOORHEAD REJECTION: My sister got this rejection this year. It starts off making it sound like you got in, and then it completely stabs you in the chest at the last minute and leaves you feeling hopeless and alone, and provides no encouragement or explanation. It’s HORRIBLE.

Here it is:

January 12th, 2009

Dear Caitlin,

Hello! Breaking News from MSUM!
Minnesota State University-Moorehead is the premier 4-year public university in the upper midwest. We are enthralled that you took the time to apply for admission to the class of 2013, and our hearts are further warmed by your obvious passion for our institution. Unfortunately, since MSUM is many students’ first choice university, we also have to sift less attractive students away. On behalf of the admissions committee at Minnesota State University-Moorhead, you have been denied admission and your application materials have been cancelled.

-Thank You, Jeremy Johnson, MSUM admissions

Sometimes I wish the rejection letters were personalized- so you would know what did it, and not have the mindset that you were in a pile they didn’t feel like looking at that day and just got rejected…

luckystarboy, that is the epitome of horrible rejection letters. Wow.

@LuckyStarBoy: Was that actually the letter?? If so, that is harsh! I would not be happy with that school at all…

@luckystarboy that just can’t be real. that’s so horrible!

^^^LMAO 10 char

Mount Holyoke’s online notification was really nice, although I got kind of scared because I didn’t see “congratulations” right away.

Dear Claire,

The Admission Office at Mount Holyoke College is posting this letter
on ISIS in advance of your official written notification of the
Admission Committee’s decision on your application.

Congratulations! It is my great pleasure to offer you admission to
Mount Holyoke College as a member of the class of 2013. The
opportunity to welcome the world’s smartest and most promising young
women is both an incredible honor and truly exciting. It has been a
privilege to come to know you throughout the application process. We
are particularly impressed by your outstanding record of scholarship
and extracurricular achievement which demonstrates your extraordinary
talent and potential. In recognition of your accomplishments and our
confidence in your potential to use a Mount Holyoke education to make
a significant contribution to the world, you have been selected to
receive a Mount Holyoke Leadership Award in the amount of $20,000 per
year.

As you have inspired us, I believe you will be inspired by the
dedication and accessibility of our world-class faculty who I know
will be delighted by your talent and potential. They will eagerly
support your academic goals and will likely inspire new scholarly
interests. The education you receive not only will help you attain
your career goals, but also prepare you to adapt to-and succeed
in-emerging professions and shifting economies.

As so many of you astutely noted in your applications, the power of
Mount Holyoke’s education comes not just from its unwavering
commitment to academic excellence, but from the combination of that
excellence with a truly diverse and global learning community. Add in
our trademark generosity and you find an environment perfect for
cultivating multiple lifelong connections: academic and
intellectual-connections inspired by the powerful tapestry of liberal
arts; relational-connections with individuals representing every
possible background and belief; purposeful-connections with alumnae
and prospective employers; and intensely personal-connections between
your course work and your aspirations and dreams.

Here, at this remarkable college in this beautiful New England town,
you will be exposed to the world-and to a world of ideas. Likewise,
you will be invited-repeatedly-to step forward as a leader while also
benefiting from the efforts of other outstanding student leaders. It
is a place you can make your own and, as generations of women can
attest, an experience that will change your life.

I so hope that you will choose Mount Holyoke College.

Sincerely,

Diane C. Anci
Dean of Admission

P.S. I hope that I can congratulate you in person. We invite you to
attend Experience MHC, our campus program for admitted students. I
look forward to seeing you there!

Well, I’ve already told you about the Amherst email where they used the word deny. Now, I got the actual letter and they had changed it (maybe someone told them it was not very nice). The new one isn’t much better. Actually, it’s even worse:
After a thorough review of your application for admission to Amherst College, the Committee of Admission has decided, with regret, not to hold a place for you in the Class of 2013

They really should get someone new to write their letters…

Middlebury’s rejection letter is TERRIBLE !

Who here agrees that Mr. Clagett didn’t put any effort or consideration into this letter?

I HATE MIDDLEBURY grrr

Edit: Mr. Clagett himself http://media.collegepublisher.com/media/paper446/stills/3531990s.jpg LOLOL

Lehigh’s acceptance letter was pretty over the top. It was this hardcore plastic wrapped spiral bound book that basically told how awesome the school was.

It’s great and all until you get to the back page, find out you will have to pay $50,000/yr to go there, with no academic scholarship offered unless your SATs are over 1400.

It makes you think that maybe they should just give me a crappy little letter instead and knock a couple thou off of the tuition price. Ha.

ROFL! How can you get get rejected from MN state? haha. Lol, that has to be by far the worst rejection letter to date.

My D transferred to Clemson. She never got an acceptance letter, only a post card saying payment was due!

My friends’ Notre Dame rejections had one of the corniest lines ever: “Our loss is another University’s gain.”

shivers

This is my rejection from BU. The letter is very nice-except for the first paragraph. Translated roughly, it means “We even made it easier for you and you STILL couldn’t get in. Sucks!”

Dear Mr. Flaherty:

When the Board of Admissions reviews applications, we give special attention to applicants whose families have a tradition of study at Boston University. We have extended this consideration in the evaluation of your application, but I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission. An unfavorable decision is never easily reached, and it is particularly difficult because of your family’s association with the University.

This year Boston University received nearly 38,000 applications for approximately 4,100 seats in our incoming class. This was a highly competitive applicant pool and unfortunately many very qualified students are receiving disappointing news. Please know that we recognize your strong commitment to your studies as well as the tremendous amount of time and effort that went into the preparation of your application.

You may wish to consider the possibility of transferring to Boston University after one or two years of strong work at another college or university. Favorable completion of challenging coursework would help us evaluate your potential for success in a degree program at Boston University.

Thank you for applying to Boston University. We wish you the best of luck in your future academic endeavors.

Sincerely,

Kelly A. Walter
Executive Director of Admissions

Rensselaer was so kind with their triumphant music. They’ve been so great with mail and email, it made me change from thinking it’s not worth applying to a possibility to attend.

This letter is bogus. The name of the institution is Minnesota State University Moorhead. The letter in this post is cynical to say the least, using words like “enthralled” and citing the class of 2013, instead of the class entering in 2009.

The letter sent to applicants denied admission says: “Thank you for your interest in MSU Moorhead. Students who apply to MSU Moorhead who do not meet our automatic admission criteria (ACT of 21 or rank in the top 50% with a minimum ACT score of 17) are reviewed by an admissions committee. After reviewing your application, we regret to inform you that we will not be able to offer you admission to MSU Moorhead. However, we would like to refer you to our partner institution, Minnesota State Community Technical College Moorhead…”

Ahhaha

Lol, this thread was mentioned in the WSJ!
