They should say it not who they take in that is important but what they turn out is more important.

I haven’t received anything in the mail yet, but I was accepted to University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. The Notification of my acceptance on their website was rather generic:

"Dear Benjamin:

Congratulations! I’m pleased to offer you admission to the University of Cincinnati. You have been admitted to the Bachelor’s degree program in Industrial Design offered through College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning for Autumn Quarter 2010-11, beginning Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Autumn quarter classes begin September 22, 2010.

If you have further questions, please contact the Office of Admissions at (513) 556-1100. On behalf of our faculty and staff, we look forward to welcoming you as a member of the UC community!"

I think it’s interesting how it doesn’t mention anything about how long you have to make your decision… it just sounds like you’re expected to go if you get accepted :P

I got admitted to Hollins today. The letter came with confetti that said “Congrats”.

I didn’t think the rejection letter from Yale was that bad - at least it didn’t make me feel any worse than the shear fact that I was rejected.

And the reason they don’t send it is most likely that they don’t want to waste all the paper - Yale is very focused on being sustainable. I mean it’s Yale, obviously a few cents are not a problem. And I’m glad I’m not getting it on paper - I don’t need tangible reassurance that I’m not good enough.

I looked online today to see I was rejected from Penn State but I got into one of the branch campus (whoop-de-do not going) but at the top it was like congratulations on being admitted in Pennsylvania State University and I was sooo happy and then I read it and wasn’t like ■■■.

Anyone get anything from UOP?

SWHarborfan, I am an academician, too. Your posts provide fodder for all those who perceive us as arrogant and petty.

“Please know that I am an academician, and, if it helps to mitigate the sting, I (and many of my colleagues, nationally) think Georgetown (the student body) provincial and frighteningly unintellectual.”

Ah, so nice to see that even “academians” fall into the trap of stereotypes. This just makes me so excited to go to college and be taught by such narrow-minded people. (sarcasm. Obviously not all academians are that petty, as coase noted.)

Villanova’s Early Action acceptance was nice, especially these lines:

"Your admission through our Early Action program is an accomplishment of which you can be proud, especially as the Office of University Admission experienced the largest Early Action pool of applicants in our University’s storied history. Early Action admission is only awarded to candidates like you with exceptional academic credentials and exemplary involvement outside of the classroom.

As a comprehensive, Augustinian university with state-of-the-art resources and a transformational approach to learning, our University is like no other. We will inspire your mind, ignite your heart, and illuminate your spirit."

They sent a package with a nice blue folder with the magical Nova crest on it.

My brother’s Duke rejection was very nice, it stated how extremely selective the pool has gotten and that he is extremely qualified and any other school will have him as an asset. Though my denial from Duke included a little bit about how I was an impressive candidate, it then explained why I wasn’t deffered and went like this, “since you’ve been denied, you’re probably curious why you weren’t deffered”… well no I wasn’t until you mentioned it and brought it to my attention and now I feel impossibly worse than I did a second ago learning I got denied from my dream school…

I agree that 'Nova’s EA acceptance letter was nice. I just wish they sent us t-shirts like some schools I know… hint hint

;)

Lehigh’s was the nicest one I’ve gotten so far, all of them were pretty generic I think though. And I want a t-shirt too haha

on the front of the package, ithaca writes “something BIG is about to happen”

cornell rejection letter is horrible.

Does college customize rejection letter?

Based on what I’ve read here, I think the best acceptance letter would be a nice envelope, and inside like a huge picture of the campus or something, with the word congratulations across it. No tricks, no wierd burying it in the letter somewhere. Just tell me right away if I got in or not!

And maybe a t-shirt or some maple syrup

hahaha ditto on the maple syrup. i literally laughed out loud when i read that.
ELF!!!

Penn’s ED deferral letter was pretty nice, I thought.

"Dear [name],

After careful consideration of your application to the University of Pennsylvania for the Class of 2014, the Admissions Selection Committee has decided to defer its final decision until the Regular Decision notification date of April 1, 2010. I realize that you must be disappointed by this delay, but I want to assure you that you are still being considered for admission to Penn.

The Admissions Committee chooses this action when we wish to have more time to evaluate your application. While we are clearly impressed by your accomplishments, we must be cautious with the limited number of spaces Penn has available. Because we want to give your candidacy the fullest consideration, we ask that you send us a mid-year report of your first semester grades.

If you have any questions, or if this office can be of any assistance to you during the coming months, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Eric J. Furda, C’87

I thought Stanford’s acceptance letter was awe-inspiring!

“Dear [name],”

Congratulations! On behalf of the Office of Undergraduate Admission, it is my pleasure to offer you admission to Stanford’s Class of 2014.

You have every reason to be proud of your accomplishments, and we are honored to invite you to join the Stanford community. Since its founding in 1891, Stanford has been defined by students and faculty who endeavor to push the limits of knowledge, and who share a commitment to extending that spirit of exploration and excellence beyond campus. Ours is a community of scholars dedicated to what university co-founder, Jane Stanford, called “the cultivation and enlargement of the mind.” Should you choose to join us at Stanford - and I sincerely hope you do - you will be challenged, and in turn will challenge others, to redefine the boundaries of the known, to make the once impossible, possible, and to offer contributions that stretch well beyond your immediate sphere of influence. I am confident from your application that you have the intellectual energy, imagination and talent to do just that, and much more.

… (boring parts)

[Name], we are all confident in the unique and extraordinary contributions you will make to our community. Again, we extend our congratulations on your admission to Stanford University and look forward to welcoming you to our family!"

UW sent it to me of Christmas eve and I got it on Boxing Day! It had a small purple envelope that had “the BIG envelope” printed on it.

First paragraph says:

“Congratulations! With great pleasure I offer you admission to the University of Washington Class of 2014. I am confident that you will benefit from the astounding range of academic and social possibilities at the University of Washington, and contribute to the rich intellectual and cultural vitality that distinguishes this remarkable university.”

Then two more paragraphs about what I will receive later. It’s nice.
But I didn’t get a t-shirt or stickers.

Chicago had a nice letter on their site. The mail came a few days letter with a certificate and folder.
Rutgers also had a nice electronic letter. Also came with certificate and folder.
Boston College’s folder was also nice. Nothing electronic.
Howard by far had the best acceptance packet and it’s not my first choice at all.
Pretty sweet scholarship, though.
