Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s acceptance envelope says “WISCONS[IN]” in red letters and the IN is bolded. I thought it was cute.

Wells had a really thin, small envelope. One sheet of paper inside, and the letter was all in all pretty generic. I do think it was hand-signed, though… Anyway, a few days later they sent me another letter asking about my t-shirt size. On December 23rd I got a 72k scholarship letter, and on the 24th I got a free shirt. So that all makes up for the rather mediocre acceptance letter. :]

UNC-Asheville’s acceptance letter came in a big envelope. The first word was a bolded congratulations! so at least that got right to point. The letter wasn’t anything special either, but it was definitely hand-signed. They sent a booklet about the school with it, too.

Neither of the two sent any fancy emblazoned folders or certificates. Pretty simple and impersonal - but they brought good news so I’m not complaining. Still have four schools to hear back from, so I’ll probably get a couple of rejections in the mail to moan about. Joy!

I heard you get a pretty cool fur hat for MSUM

i think i might just apply to a bunch of schools next year just so i can get all these fun sounding acceptance letter and feel good :] just kidding

Yale’s deferral letter was ok

Dear pigs:

The Yale Admissions Committee has completed its evaluation of this year’s Single Choice Early Action candidates and has voted to defer action on your application. We will review your file again in the spring, and I will write to inform you of the outcome in April.

I realize that this deferral may come as a real disappointment, especially if your early application was an indication that Yale is truly your first choice among schools. I also know that our decision means you will face an additional period of uncertainty.

Many deferred students would like us to provide an estimate of their chances for admission in the spring. Unfortunately, we can only tell you that we expect the rate of admission for deferred candidates from the early process to be about the same as the rate of admission for all Regular Decision candidates. The level of competition for places is extremely high, but we do accept a significant number of the early applicants whom we reconsider.

If we require information in addition to your Midyear Report, the admissions officer in charge of your area will write or call. In turn, please keep us informed of any important new information that was not available when you submitted your original application. We know that you will be an outstanding candidate for admission at many excellent colleges, and we look forward to another opportunity to consider your application to Yale.

Best wishes,

Jeffrey Brenzel
Dean of Undergraduate Admissions

good luck getting in to yale
that’s gotta be frustrating :[

I guess their deferral letter wasn’t that bad…Yale is pretty nice about most things XP

Their acceptance letter was niiice. Or rather, the singing bulldog online is really pretty cool XP Cause it’s the first thing you see- then the text of the actual letter is like, congratulations, we hope you attend XP Pretty generic stuff, but nice anyways.

Creighton’s was really nice. They had a handwritten letter added in with personal info about me written by my admissions officer. The giant scholarship didn’t hurt either. it felt nice after my depressing deferral letter from WashU.

ASU’s was pretty generic, but then again, I wasn’t exactly expecting a parade and music.

I agree with the Creighton one. I’ve already got seven acceptance packages, but the handwritten letter from my admissions counselor (and not some random student like other schools) is and will always be by far the best.

UAlabama’s acceptance letter was scary-a skinny envelope!!!
But their honors college one was fantastic! A huge handwritten note

Hartwick’s was kind of boring - a skinny envelope with a brochure on their 3-year degree option. Though they offered me a 22k/year scholarship, so that made up for the lame presentation.

stanford sent an extra letter saying that legacy sons and daughters get an exra look-at by admissions officers before the admissions process is complete. so you feel extra bad when you get that rejection letter. that was utterly depressing.

Pittsburgh sent me an acceptance letter that had “Congratulations” on the outside of the large envelope.

So what do they say if you’re rejected?

“Sorry.” or “Community College” ?

lol

lol I know this has nothing to do with this thread, as I have not received any such letters yet, but I was reading anyway because this thread is bomb.

anywhooo popnpoper’s community college thing made me laugh- pretty sure my mom wants me to go to community college and is like, sabotaging me from the app process…or maybe it’s just me…who knows…

Just got Carnegie’s letter today, I think they send the “fat envelope” later but here we go:

Dear ___,

Congratulations! It is an honor to invite you to join Carnegie Mellon University’s Information Systems program for Fall 2010 under our early decision program.

Each year, Carnegie Mellon receives an increasing number of applications from very talented students. After reviewing the academic and supporting credentials of all our applicants, we believe that you can be very successful at Carnegie Mellon.

On behalf of the university, I want to express our confidence in you. We know that you will greatly contribute to our campus community, both in academics and extracurricular activities. As a university, we are committed to meeting your need for intellectual and personal growth, and we hope you will make Carnegie Mellon your university.

<stuff about=“” deposit=“” and=“” not=“” screwing=“” up=“” rest=“” of=“” the=“” year=“”></stuff>

The admission staff joins me in congratulating you on your admission. We wish you every success in your college career. We are proud to have you join the Carnegie Mellon family.

I wish i got a t-shirt with this letter

Harvard:

Dear Student,

Congratulations! You’ve been accepted… NOT

Doesn’t that make you feel warm and fuzzy? :)

the purdue acceptance package was nice. there’s a big folder with pictures of purdue on it, and inside there’s multiple sheets of paper about financial aid, housing, etc. in addition, there’s a west lafayette visitors guide and a purdue decal. on top of all that, you have the option of getting a poster of purdue that says your name on it and “purdue university, class of 2014.”

the letter made me feel nice too :)

Chicago’s was very nice indeed. I absolutely LOVED the fact that they sent me both a 2010 calendar and a personalized holidays card from my admissions counselor.

I finished all my applications in late October so I’ve heard from the majority of my schools. I got accepted Keene State but it was a very generic letter though in a smallish envelope and I found out online 2 days before.

When I got rejected from UVM, I found out online and they even sent a link to a page on why I was rejected and had the nerve to send a letter!

And SUNY New Paltz had the rudest rejection letter. It was basically 3 sentences saying how they “had a selective class to fill”
