Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

Clark University sent a t-shirt, frisbee, pen, and some other stuff.

University of Rochester’s acceptance letter was pretty cool since they mentioned one specific aspect of your application that stood out. They did this for all applicants, which made it seem they actually read every part of our app.
:]

^ haha, that’s AWESOME! I love it when a school personalizes stuff :)

Clark sends all that?? I just got a letter in an envelope along with my scholarship information. Hopefully that was just an early acceptance, and I’ll get the rest of that in the mail tomorrow…

Howard and Loyola Marymount U have pretty boring acceptance letters. Basically a simple envelope printed on green or yellow paper saying “Congrats!”. Lame.

University of Chicago’s rejection letter sucked though. All rejections suck, but the false sympathy they try to give you (which lasts all of a sentence) makes you feel like the waterboy being told he’s a key component of the football team: you know it’s b.s.

Not to mention there’s no kind of reassurance, like “Hey, your going to have a great four years no matter where you go. This isn’t the end!” I know that’s a job for our family and friends but meh.

Looking forward to being disappointed by Princeton in the near future :p

"Clark sends all that?? I just got a letter in an envelope along with my scholarship information. Hopefully that was just an early acceptance, and I’ll get the rest of that in the mail tomorrow… "

My D got accepted ED in December. She got all the stuff a few weeks ago along with an invitation to the new students orientation program next weekend. I’m sure you’ll get your big envelope with the tchotskes. Are you planning to attend Clark?

The Mount Holyoke online notification letter is amazing. Mine was different from the others which have already been mentioned in this thread, and I loved it. It was so flattering!

Well FSU sends a really nice see-through certificate in an FSU folder with all of the important contact numbers. It looks really nice, but the online status check gives you this: http://i44.■■■■■■■.com/2re6tqt.png</a> and the fireworks actually move as we sound of fireworks plays in the background. It goes away after a few weeks, but some people who applied and got in for late admission reminded me how cool it was :(

pace university’s acceptance letter was…i don’t know how to express it…before i know the answer…on the bottom corner of the letter says: THE ANSWER IS YES!!..i laughed my *** off when i read it…didn’t enroll because of it :P

There is! I saw it too! :D

My first ever acceptance was Claremont McKenna. They said that the committee “unanimously” decided to offer me admission. It felt nice :)

Hendrix asks for your favorite candy in their application and then sends it to you when you are accepted.

^ are you serious?!

Dear haavain,

It is with regret that I write to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to the freshman class at Stanford University. Please know that this decision does not necessarily reflect any deficiency or weakness in your application. To the contrary, we are humbled by your talents and achievements, and are impressed with the commitment that you have shown in all of your academic and extracurricular endeavors. It is unfortunate, and truly our loss, that we are not able to offer admission to more students from our exceptionally talented applicant pool.

We appreciate the thoughtfulness and care that went into your application and want to assure you that your candidacy received thorough and serious consideration. This decision should in no way detract from the very impressive credentials that you presented; due to the large number of applications that we receive for a comparatively small incoming class, we must unfortunately disappoint the vast majority of our applicants each year.

You should know that we arrive at all admission decisions by way of an exhaustive committee review process. As a result, all application decisions are final, and we are unable to consider appeals of any kind. To find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions regarding our admission process, click here. These should address many of the questions and concerns that you may have. I hope that any disappointment you may feel at this decision is tempered by the justifiable pride you should have for your accomplishments to date, academic and otherwise. To that end, I share with you an article I wrote for the Los Angeles Times in 2003 and have updated to be current for today.

I know this is not the news you hoped to receive, and for that reason we will not send a duplicate notification of this decision by mail unless you request one from us. If you wish to request an additional copy of this letter by mail, you may do so here.

haavain, you are a fine student and I want to thank you for your interest in Stanford, and the effort that you put into your application. I wish you the very best for an outstanding undergraduate experience.

Sincerely,
Richard H. Shaw
Dean of Admission and Financial Aid

The article is a nice touch, as is the last line. But I think they could cut the FAQ part; it made me roll my eyes.

Dear Funk,

Congratulations!

It was wonderful to meet you in Abu Dhabi during Candidate Weekend. All of us here very much look forward to welcoming you to campus in the fall and to working with you and your outstanding classmates in creating an educational experience of unprecedented quality and excitement. Together, we will make history.

Sincerely,

Alfred H. Bloom

Vice Chancellor

such a huge decision coming up quick

^ wow this is really the best acceptance letter I’ve ever seen so far!! congrats funk!

I just want to say that Stanford is a class act. They sent out their decisions as soon as they were ready. The drama of the big wait is getting old. Thanks Stanford!

Everyone said that Stanford was always the worst. I didn’t think that haavain’s letter was too bad! It seemed kind of nice actually!

I have to say, Bryn Mawr has the best admissions letter ever.

In the email they sent out, there was a link to the video with a fake news report and the dean stepping out saying ‘you’re in!’. It made me smile for hours.

And in the admissions package, there was a handwritten letter from the admissions officer who read my application (I’m an international) congratulating me on my admission.

Mine came in a nice little purple folder than flipped up, I was scared at first because I saw $4000 and thought that was my scholarship. Luckily, it wasn’t. I don’t remember the letter, but I assume it is very nice and personal since I did also receive a Happy Birthday card from my school and I feel like I get a letter from my admissions counselor every week or so.
