Best writing programs for someone with these stats?

What schools have good writing programs for someone with:

3.2 UW 3.7 W GPA
1910 SAT
Not a lot of ECs, but have been musically inclined for 10+ years
Good Essays
Good Recs

Thanks.

bump…

^^^^^ how are the waves in hawaii? i heard its 30 ft + there. three days ago it was triple overhead at some spots in so cal.

Oooh, try checking out Sarah Lawrence, sweet writing , Middlebury would be quite a reach, but I’d give it a shot, 1910…that’s 13000+, I’ve seen 1300 get into Middlebury, give it a shot, one of the best writing programs in the country.

P.S. - Since when are we bumping for other people? And when did Hawaii pop in?

Yeah, I;d like to know the same…good programs for writing/communications?

I was bumping because I have similar stats and I also want to major in writing…and I am from Hawaii.

No one has been on the beach for the past 3 days because of a shark attack, but the waves are tight.

U of Missouri - Columbia is the best writing program in the country.

What kind of writing?

For journalism, I’d go with Missouri-Columbia, Syracuse or Emerson. Northwestern and Middlebury would be big reaches with that GPA and an admitted lack of ECs.

Look at Kenyon and Goucher.

blyth89:

there was a shark attack? what island do u live on?

Yup, but the guy didn’t die. I live on Maui.

Look at Hamilton College, a liberal arts school in Clinton, New York. Their whole curriculum emphasizes writing and the English professors are amazing. Poets like Agha Shahid Ali and Howard Nemorov have been on the faculty there and it’s a top-notch school to boot.

For creative writing, give UCR a look. Also, search for the many threads on English/Creative writing.

Kenyon has one of the country’s strongest literary tradition and is the college behind the Kenyon Review. Her English major is reknowned.

While Kenyon and Hamilton do indeed have wonderful creative writing programs, both would be on the reach side for someone with the stats the OP is talking about (of course, they’re always worth a shot!).

Assuming we are talking about creative writing and not journalism, here are some additional schools with strong writing programs that would be more solidly matched with those stats:

Knox College - Illinois
Washington College - Maryland
University of Redlands - California
Beloit College - Wisconsin
Goucher College - Maryland
Bennington College - Vermont
Emerson College - Mass.
Sarah Lawrence - NY

I have a link that lists more, plus information about what to look for in a good writing program, but I am not allowed to post it here. I will PM it to the original poster, and if anyone else is interested, they can PM me and ask for it as well.
