Cute idea. Note that they also have a 1500 sq ft building that is the community kitchen and entertaining space.

Sounds like a good idea for those who might want vacation homes somewhere.

One report indicates that these are not these people’s permanent homes.

Seems like a nice option, as long as the families remain pretty close. I can see it sold as a retreat if and when the families want out.

I can see the appeal. We live next door to a very good friend. It works.

She is low maintenance.

Some other friends…maybe not so much.

it could be a fun option for extended family who enjoy vacationing together. I guess the “community kitchen/room” would be funded like an HOA, thru monthly dues.

I would think that each home would also need a mini-kitchen for food items that are personal and not to be shared.

I didn’t see the laundry situation. I wonder if the community room has a shared laundry room?

My impression is that they are permanent dwellings, and it sounds like co housing for those who already know each other. I like the separate dwellings.

A number of my friends are in co housing, and while endless meetings get tiring, they really enjoy their living situation. They pay a condo like fee each month. The common space in the one in my town is rather lovely.

A co housing definition, for those who are not familiar. http://www.cohousing.org/what_is_cohousing

The toilet and Kitchen are in the same room??

At that price, I’d take 2. One for me & DW, one for the kids.

It does appear that the bathroom and the kitchenette are in the same room. (the real kitchen is in another bldg).

From the pic, it does appear that there would be enough space to place a wall with a door between the toilet and the kitchenette area.

They rent out the 4 tiny homes & communal kitchen for $1200/nite–sounds like a nice chunk of change for them! Some have commented that these will likely not age well.

For some weird reason I’m obsessed with tiny houses, and even get email updates from a company that sells them (Tumbleweed). Not that I’d ever live in one necessarily . . .

It’s a cool idea (bestie row) so long as you were OK being in that close proximity with your friends.

Well, as it’s not their primary residence, it’s cool that they decided they wanted to have this as their vacation option. At least the prices aren’t prohibitive, compared to real estate in HI, for example. Sounds like they can make some nice money renting out these places.

I was surprised to see how much wood was used, particularly on the exteriors. I would have thought that some of the synthetic materials available would have been a better choice…less vulnerable to the elements, less to maintain, not vulnerable to bugs/decay/mold.

I can see an extended family renting them out for a mini-family reunion…parents, kids, spouses, grandkids.

This is not a new concept to me. Growing up in Brooklyn in the 60’s and 70’s, people would often vacation all summer long in bungalow colonies. Some bungalows had private kitchens, some had communal dining, some offered both. They were tiny unheated houses. Kids ran free and were only seen at meals and bedtime. They were located in the Catskills, parts of New Jersey and in the very early 60’s they were in Far Rockaway, Queens near the beach and boardwalk!

Not too long ago saw an appeal on crowfunder for investments in a tent made colony in Rockaway to recreate the old bungalows.

just found this about it:
