Better major with more prospects?

Supposedly Harvard ranks high in Econ and Govt. But which one offers more in the end? I mean is an AB in Econ better than an AB in Govt or IR? Or are they equal?

Which one “offers more in the end” depends on what you do in the process and what you want to do after the end. (That answer makes about as much sense as your question, perhaps.)

Ok. Maybe with jobs in economic development, think tanks, development banks, private sector consulting…any of these fields.

To the extent economics is more quantitative, it may be a better choice for the fields you have mentioned.

Very nice essay linked by tokenadult. Thanks.

There was a similar high school graduation speech (actually given) by another tech guru, Guy Kawasaki from Apple, whose first pieces of advice were “live off your parents for as long as possible” and “your goal should be to extend college to at least 6 years”.

Wow! the Paul Graham article hits the spot. I’m a college student and I still live life like it was high school; except more advance + more independence.

And I read the essay (and also the one about nerds) and thought my son actually figured it out. He does treat high school like a day job and spent most of his time doing exactly what he liked and was good at.
