Better to have variation within a list?

I’m finalizing my college list right now, and I’m wondering whether I should have a variety of schools (I’m a pretty fickle person), or a bunch of schools with the same type of student body/curriculum/size/etc. I know most people do the latter, but has anyone done the former? Is this just me putting off decision making until acceptance letters come around?

Go with the same type if you know the type of environment you want to be in. No point in wasting dollars for schools you will not be happy at.

However a little variety can be useful because sometimes you don’t know FOR SURE until you go to accepted student days, stay overnight etc. So maybe not huge and small but maybe small and medium, slightly preppy and slightly more artsy, for example.

If you’re fickle, definitely have a variety so you can have choices in April.
