Better to take genetics or physics in high school?

Hey everybody–

Need your advice. I took chemistry this year and last year (not the same class, of course; this year was a continuation of last year) and had a great teacher with whom a developed a good relationship. I am now choosing classes for next year, and I am between taking algebra-based physics, calculus-based physics or genetics and molecular genetics (each is one semester). The genetics classes would be taught by my chemistry teacher, but I am worried that they look much easier than physics. That said, I am not terribly good physics…

Please let me know!

Physics. Just continuing the echo.

Usually, the three (lab) sciences are biology, chemistry, and physics. To me, genetics seems like an elective, or a class limited in what you can apply it to. In other words, it seems like a small section of some advanced biology class. While nice to take, it really won’t help your admission profile.

On the other hand, physics is a broad field used in part by almost all STEM majors. If you haven’t taken a physics class before, then you don’t really have a choice; all top schools expect to see at each of the three classes I mentioned.

If you have a spare class slot and can take both, go for it. If it’s between one, then you gotta go with physics.

Physics, for the reasons mentioned above.

Take what you’re more interested in. Most people on this site will tell you Physics because they’re mindless drones that live only to please colleges. Education is about you and what you want to learn, so if you would rather learn about Genetics, then take Genetics and don’t listen to these sheep.

Genetics is an awesome field. You should definitely take it, eventually. But if you intend to go off to college and major in a STEM field, you should take some form of physics in high school. After you’ve completed all the basics, then you can “take what you’re more interested in”. If you have room for electives, genetics would be a really cool choice.

“Pleasing colleges” means you get in somewhere, which is a pretty good goal if you ask me.

My personal advice would be to double up, honestly! It’s good to be introduced to each of the main sciences–don’t want your first exposure to something to be at the most difficult level. If genetics is easier, then it won’t be too much of a problem to take it alongside physics. My sister wants to do the same with forensic science and chemistry.

Double up if you can, if not- take Physics.

The Genetics can wait.

I just barely saw that lol

I say physics because I’m a physics major, and I love the subject. Genetic, to me, would be boring, sorry. :stuck_out_tongue:
