Max and I will most definitely split the pot, or maybe I’ll just invest in another Blue Devill

WELCOME!!!

And thanks for taking part in this fun with us!

I would love to “get to know” you all!

Hope to see you around much more often!! ~berurah

texastaximom~
I’m sure you won’t have any trouble getting the whole dang pot from Max as long as his brother gets him a ticket to at least one b-ball game!! He has aspirations of being a Cameron Crazy!! lol

~b.

Do these winnings have to be declared on next year’s FAFSA?

berurah…you are most welcome for the odds explanation. Hubby and I were sitting here discussing them coincidentaly while trying to decide if we were going to Keeneland (horse races) yesterday while I was reading your thread. Not to mention I try to keep up with all the UMiami talk here on CC. And while I rarely post, even though I’m probably one of the longest lurkers here on CC, I’ve loved this thread! Good fun!

somemom: Probably only if you can find a college or university that will accept e-dollars in payment of tuition! ;)

I, too, lurked on this forum for quite a while before I started posting. I hope you continue to come here and read up on Miami. I am actually a UMiami alum, and in the months since my son has been accepted there, I have become more and more impressed with them! They have been very attentive and communicative and have gone way out of their way to get us the resources we need in order to make our decision. If my son does not end up attending there, I will definitely be left with a sense of something wonderful lost…I think it is a fabulous school!

Did you and your dh end up going to Keeneland? If so, how did you do?? :)

Hope to “see” more of you around here! ~berurah

somemom~
AACCKK! I hope not!! lol

Lhasa~glad you made it onto the list!!

~b.

thanks for the “invitation”, I feel like I know you all, but I’ve been hesitant to jump in at this late date, especially, {lol} since I’m trying to break the CC habit.

annelise (BEAUTIFUL name, btw)~Give it up, girl!! I am a very self-disciplined person, and I have tried it too…but alas, it didn’t work!

So, jump right in and tell us about yourself–it’s NEVER too late!

So glad to have you here!! ~berurah

Thx.
I like your name, too—always wondered if it is it “related” to Bruriah, the great (only?) female scholar of Talmudic times?

I have a son graduating from Brown, a daughter who just left for Bulldog Days. I found this community in December, while D was waiting for EA decision at Yale, and I was far away from home on business. I was missing all the friends/family/school excitement of who and when and where, CC was a substitute community.

annelise~

CONGRATULATIONS on two accounts–your son’s upcoming graduation from Brown AND your daughter’s acceptance to Yale!! You must be a very proud mom! I wish them both the very best for bright, successful, and HAPPY futures!

Since I was the only person among my circle of friends who was going through this process, I turned to CC for advice, support, and encouragement. I am happy to say that I have found all of the above here!

Actually, the names ARE related, at least in my history! In fact, when I was younger, I used to pronounce my Hebrew name “Bruriah”–that’s what I always thought it was and how my early Hebrew teacher pronounced it–until my father informed me that mine was actually pronounced “berurah” lol

At any rate, glad to have you here, and please don’t be a stranger!

~b.

And congrats to you (and all the wonderful moms and dads here) on the continued nurture of our world’s future leaders!
I’ll try and send you a private message, B…

Not sure how to get e-dollars but don’t want to be left out of the pool. Hope someone will tell me how to get e-dollaars, assuming that they really exist.

My belief is that with Passover coming up, Berurah & S will want to consider possible implications of slavery vs. freedom in selecting a college and a program. For instance, does a long-term devotion to Duke consitutute a kind of slavery that could prevent clear thinking at a time when one’s accepted but apparently without any financial aid? Or - does the strong consideration of financial cirmcumstances involve an undue attachment to money (not necessarily bad when there are 5 siblings who have yet to go to college - just something worth thinking about)? Or would acceptance to a school with high academic standards such as JHU, that’ll have to be met to maintain the scholarship, amount to some sort of a voluntary assumption of servitude? Or which school or program will provide the greatest likelihood of S becoming his own person - moving out from the shadow of being Berurah’s eldest S and into his own spotlight?

Those surely are enough questions. My bet is at the end, that the decision wil be made in the middle of next week after the first couple of days of Passover, when S will be more comfotable with the decision.

Hey, with the extra money from JHU, s. could fly down to 10 Duke basketball games a year, stay over, and still come out well ahead. ;)

WELL, my friends, excuse me while I go jump off the nearest bridge…

JUST KIDDING, for you serious and literal folks out there! :)

I ask each of you…Can this decision be made any more difficult??? And I answer, YES!!!

O.K., just got the financial aid packet from Duke. Are you ready for this?

THEY FLIPPIN’ MATCHED THE MONEY FROM JHU!!! with something they are calling a “Duke University Scholarship”—it’s actually a few dollars more than the JHU scholarship offer.

I am at this moment trying to get in touch with someone in the know at the finaid office to find out if this is renewable each year or not.

A warning to all bettors–I called my son at school, and his first words were…“Mom, call the schools and get an extension!”

WILL THIS EVER END???

Now, we really DO have a choice, so feel free to place a second (or third) bet (right, simba!?), and keep this goin’…I need you ALL!!!

lots of love, ~a very stunned berurah

Oh Berurah, UNBELIEVABLE! That is wonderful news. I just have this feeling about Duke. . . But no, no extensions. Don’t even go there. . .

lolololololol mstee!! Believe me, it’s not a place I WANT to go!! And yet…we may have no choice lol

I honestly have NO idea how this decision will EVER be made now. Anyone for pulling it out of a hat??? ~b.
