betting pool for berurah's Son

O.K., the Duke University Scholarship is considered a need-based grant, and if they consider us in this amount of need THIS year, then we will most likely be eligible for it for the remaining years as well (some of you probably recall the FAFSA fiasco).

eenie, meenie, minee, mo…eenie, meenie, minee, mo…~b.

What a wild and crazy ride!!! Woo Hoo - I telling you - Duke will win - your family has already invested in the clothes, lol!

ABlestMom~how very, very right you are!!! I was just thinking that I would have to hand down 50% of S’s t-shirts next year and replace them! And I have a small fortune invested in hats…even bought one for my oldest daughter’s boyfriend when the acceptance came in! (and he’s been wearing it religiously!). This IS a wild and crazy ride, huh??? So glad you posted! ~b.

This thread just has me smiling like a fool . . .

Oh my oh my OH MY!!! A wild ride indeed, berurah, how exciting!

Yeah, my bet-time has already passed, so given this new news, I’m shifting my bet to Duke.

Duke, 4/20, 10am CST

mstee~

Easy for YOU…you don’t have to make this wretched decision!!! lol

Has anyone ever known someone who successfully chose and attended three or four schools concurrently!!??!!?? lol

~b.

mootmom~

I can see that simba has been a TERRIBLE influence on you!!! lol And do remember, the “Duke Scholarship” does not carry the honor and prestige of the Hodson Scholarship (strictly merit based, as you know), so therein lies a major quandary! This is NOT over yet, and now, I believe that visits will be CRUCIAL. YIKES!! ~b.

Wow! Amazing! That is super- if I had yet received my aid packets from all schools, I would be sending copies of the best ones to the others. Your son must be truly amazing! All those NY/NJ people are probably a wee bit envious of your KS hook too :p

Unless the lacross coach at Hopkins offers to make S a starting mid-fielder, I’m doubling down on Duke! CONGRATS.

Berurah: I believe that I can tell you how this decision will be made.

It will be made by your S, who, after a lot of thought on everyone’s part, a lot of worrying by you, and a lot of thinking by himself, will step out and show all of you, and all of us, that he’s ready to make an important decision among some very great choices. And he may do it for reasons that are new to you. And like all of us who have seen a kid go through this process, you’ll step back and marvel at the new-found ability of this kid.

Even with the new Duke financial aid, I will stick by my previous bets because I still haven’t got a clue as to what he will decide.

dadofsam~
BEAUTIFUL sentiment, BEAUTIFULLY stated. I thank you for your kindness and your confidence in my son. Each day I find something new to marvel at with EACH of my children. And you are right…this decision will be one of those things… love, ~berurah

That’s what I saw happen with our S last year, and what he’s been up to this year.
P.S. better make those visits ASAP so that he has the information and impressions on which he can make a decision.

dadofsam~

You are SO right (as usual  )–the visits have become ESSENTIAL. Fortunately, I have had some incredibly sweet offers of help from some very special CCers!! ~b.

Whhhhooooooooo!!!

Oh berurah,

SO happy for your son that now this decision will be school vs school and not aid vs. aid. Whatever he decides it can be wholehearted and for this I am very very happy!!

I am not a betting type-- but I find it curious that JHU is still in the running now that Duke has ponied up. Must mean JHU got under his skin a bit!!

Changing My Bet To Duke!!!

wow what a ride…Now it looks like Duke will win.

Berurah: tried to PM you with information about the new U Miami biotech center but your PM mailbox is overflowing and cannot accept new messages. Check yesterday’s Palm Beach Post for the article.

dadofsam~I cleared spaced just for you!! Feel free to pm now…I’ll be pretty much tied up for the rest of the day–daughters are in a MT production at a li’l caberet! ~b.

And me I just keep reading about this new virus in Africa that is ebola-like and thinking Berurah’s S must be dying to get his rubber-gloved hands on it. No? And BTW, I have thought Duke all along. Your kid just sounds like in his heart he wants to have the quintessential belong to a school and root hard experience. The brightest young person who has ever worked for me was from Duke engineering, and she loved it when their bball team whomped Stanford…

Do those of us who picked Duke anyway get anything extra??? Wowie Zowie, Berurah! Your youngin is blessed indeed! So happy for you!
