Betty White and SNL

My H was just dying laughing during the MacGruber skits - was the commercial for the movie fake or is there really going to be a MacGruber movie??

As for me - I was fist-pumping at Betty’s comments about Facebook, you were spot on sister!!! Waste.of.time.

Now Pete Schweaty (aka Alec Baldwin) is coming back next week…

I loved SNL last night. Her comment about FACEBOOK “poking” was funny—:).

I was VERY impressed with the graciousness of the SNL cast, allowing each skit to be a set-up for Betty White’s talent, giving her the center stage and the best lines. Class act by them, and a great way to show their respect for legendary talent.

Perhaps the show’s producer (Lorne Micheals (sp?)) will learn something here. The truly best SNLs are when the host has comedic TALENT (Dangerfield and Steve Martin come to mind). It is not when you have the latest “IT” celebrity plugging a movie or their 15 minutes of fame on that stage. This usually just means they are put into skits based on the novelty of them being in some bizarre situation, given some “softball” gag lines then left to stand in the background the rest of the skit while the “professionals” carry the rest. I’m sure once Mr. Micheals sees the ratings and buzz for last night, we may see some other experienced comedic talent on that stage giving a monologue.

Any suggestions? How about Bob Newhart?

amazing show…we were so surprised that BW was in almost every skit…and, agree with the kudos to the graciousness of the cast…

this ranked right up there with memorable Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin and Justin Timberlake episodes of recent years; classic…

Loved the Facebook monologue (although my college soph who arrived home hours earlier didn’t “get it”…lol)

full disclosure here: it took me a few minutes to “get” the muffin skit…yea, I’m a little slow on the uptake that late at night…

So, CC’ers: my husband posed this question to me last night:

Bullet:
we were stumped but thoughts that came to mind were: Tony Bennett and Sean Connery (not played by Darrell Hammond), and maybe Florence Henderson? and, yes, Bob Newhart would be amazing…Carol Burnett also…

He is not truly ancient (67 years old) but I would love to see Christopher Walken again. No one does a deadpan better…the cow bell skit is one of the best of all time.

Interestingly, I have no desire in seeing Chevy Chase. He never did it for me.

That was one of the best SNL’s in ages. Did anyone get that they had all the former female SNLers who are now moms? I thought that was great!
And now, Alec Baldwin next week.

I didn’t know it ahead of time, but boy was I impressed as I saw each one in view!

If I were Alec Baldwin, I’d be nervous as hell following Betty White!

I’ve remained an SNL fan, even through the bad years. Thought this one was great and am proud to have joned the FB group “We want Betty White to host SNL.”

Sometimes other entertainers are better than the actors. Taylor Swift was much better than Megan Fox, who was the worst host I’ve seen in years. I’m crushing on Alec Baldwin, thanks to “30 Rock,” so I’m looking forward to next week!

I think Alec Baldwin has been one of the most frequent hosts. I can picture him dressing up as BW.

hope they show a repeat; i fell asleep

I didn’t realize they were all moms…loved Tina Fey, and the Really routine

Agree. And did you ever see his reading of the “Three Little Pigs”? Tears-in-your-eyes, holding your belly because it hurts level of funny…

Christopher Walken is usually an annual host; probably not this year due to “Behanding in Spokane” currently on Broadway (and a huge hoot if anyone has yet to see it!!)

Great idea for Alec Baldwin to dress up as Betty White; and he would do it sooo well…anyone have an “in” to the email addresses of the SNL writers??

for the poster who fell asleep: HULU

Just saw it on DVR.
Kudos to Betty White, her comedic timing is still impeccable!

I hope to look half as lovely as she does if I get to that age!

DD, who is in the business, has met her a number of times. She is, in real life, nicer than she comes across on TV. And that is saying a lot!

For those the benefit of you who don’t watch SNL regularly, it was obvious that the muffin sketch was designed as a female version of the “Schweddy balls” sketch that Alec Baldwin did several versions of on “Delicious Dish” segments in years past.

It was great to see all those old SNL alumae come back for last night’s show.

Betty White was recently on The Ellen Show. Ellen asked her if she ever had trouble keeping a straight face during her years in the business. Betty said, “Oh yes, absolutely. I hope I can stay in character on SNL” (or something to that effect). So Ellen said she would give her some practice. Ellen made goofy faces, put on glasses with dangling eyeballs, etc. and Betty was giving her a totally stone faced, deadpan, almost cold faced expression. So Ellen gives up, and takes off the goofy glasses…at which point Betty breaks into laughter, pointing at Ellen’s face. It was so cute.

You could probably see it on youtube on even on The Ellen Show website.

The only way it would have been better is if, when the Census Taker showed up, Betty White was the Landshark, and not Ms. Blarfanger.

She rocked the house.

Loved. Loved. Loved Betty! I haven’t watched SNL in a long time. It was certainly worth watching this week.

Just this morning I noticed friends have joined a new Facebook group - Carol Burnett to Host SNL. I think she’d be fantastic.

I think Facebook users are better judges of good hosts than Lorne Michaels!

For those of you with AOL, there are three skits that they didn’t have time to air on Saturday night…should be listed on the home page…

Inthebiz: I don’t (and won’t) have a Facebook page…please join the Carol Burnett group for me!!!

A friend who is in the entertainment business has a friend closer to SNL who said that the former cast members wrote their sketches - Tina Fey wrote the census sketch, Ana and Molly wrote the muffin sketch.

One of the best SNLs in a long time.
