Beware UCSC BusManEcon(BME) applicants

A bit of advice for transfer applicants seeking the BME major at UC Santa Cruz. If you have taken the equivalent of Econ 1 and Econ 2 at comm college or other university and you have less than a combined 2.8 GPA in both courses you should contact the Econ Deptartment BEFORE you accept any offer from the University and BEFORE you turn down other college offers.

It is possible to be admitted to the University and not be admitted to the major. It happened to my daughter. She appealed the Department’s GPA requirement shortly after transferring but was denied, not deferred. Denied. The Econ dept apparently does not screen transfer applicants during the admissions process so if you have a 2.8 you’re good to go but anything less than that and you’re at risk. So if you’re currently taking those courses, aim for B’s and A’s and avoid the C’s.
