BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Northwestern decisions are posted. Just heard from a friend.

@CLDMom so far I really haven’t seen anything per se that the Theater dept has done (at least this year) to take advantage of location…except they had Chris Sullivan (This is Us) come in and talk to the students as he is an alum. The film school, on the other hand, hosts a Hollywood Masters Series where they bring in really big names for interviews and the students can attend. Please forgive me if I’m repeating myself…I don’t remember if I mentioned this in the last post. In February they had Willem Dafoe and Gary Oldman back to back! My D attended the Gary O session and loved it. They also brought in the director of Red Sparrow who is also an alum to screen the movie and do a Q&A after. She went to that as well.
Campus life seems to be pretty chill. Not a crazy party atmosphere at all. It is a Jesuit (Catholic) school but so are many others including Fordham, Georgetown, Scranton as well as the other Loyolas. Notre Dame is also Catholic. The Jesuit mission is one of service and the education of the whole person. Students can get involved in as much or as little as they wish. There are many service opportunities available though including serving meals on Skid Row. My D had expressed an interest in doing some of these things but so far has not. There is no pressure whatsoever. There is a beautiful Catholic chapel on campus (see my avatar) and the church bell rings every 15 minutes but I find it a very beautiful and soothing sound but that’s probably because it reminds me of my childhood! Parent weekend last month was very well run and I’m so glad we flew across country to attend. Oh and not everyone is Catholic…in fact each dorm has a counselor assigned to it who lives there and in one building it’s a priest, another a rabbi, etc. They are all of different faiths. We Catholics do not push our religion on people…we’re very low key

It is a No from Northwestern for us. But that is OK because we have never been there and he didn’t audition so I don’t feel it is as personal of a rejection. 3 more to go!!

Thanks for tip on searching Pace White Pages… of course tried and did not even recognize name so need to go to Portal… tell that to the folks who send multiple emails a day and ā€œadmissionsā€ calls up the wazoo!!

Well, phooey. The Pace White Pages didn’t recognize our name either, and I thought that meant we’d finally gotten rid of them. Sounds like that’s not necessarily the case. I think we got an email this week, but no one has called since D very firmly said NO to an admission’s student asking if she was still thinking about attending.

Once upon a time she was most excited about Pace. They’ve really managed to turn that around with their shenanigans.

It’s a no for my S for NW too. (For future years: 3.75 GPA and 34 ACT and he did the musical theatre supplement).

My S is out, but I am not unhappy because he has other options (yea!) and I think the school is too intense for his personality. (This is why he didn’t apply ED)

Northwestern is a yes!

Congratulations @Naevia! I’m so happy for you!

@Naevia - Congratulations! Would you mind providing your D’s stats?

I just checked my son’s Pace account/white pages(was accepted to MT 3/9) and it also says Undecided. So I am guessing that the portal is no help in determining whether a student is in or out. I know the MT dept calls, then sends letters to the alternates and waitlists. We rec’d the MT official letter this week. Hoping for news soon for those waiting!!!

@Naevia - CONGRATS to your S! It’s a fantastic program. Every play we’ve seen there is excellent.

Thanks, @stmama! No mail again from Pace today for my S.

@Naevia Congrats to your S! He must be on cloud nine right now.

@Naevia So Happy for you and your S! Evanston is my Favorite place to get away from it all. I know that he’s going to love it!

@naevia - Congratulations to you and your son on Northwestern! Such an accomplishment! Enjoy the moment. I’m so happy for you both.

Ok…I have been lurking on this board for almost 2 months. I wish I would have found this stuff last year!! I just wanted to chime in on Pace. My S auditioned for BFA acting. On March 4th, the Pace directory/white pages changed from Dyson undecided to Acting. We have still heard no official word from Pace…no calls, emails or mail. Ugh! The few other schools he applied to were much better at communicating status. Luckily, he has acceptances but Pace is his first choice.

Thanks, everyone! It’s so wonderful to be able to share the highs and the lows on this board.

We’re a ā€œdonut holeā€ family, so it’s unlikely we’ll be able to make the $ work, but he is so incredibly happy just getting a yes from such a great place.

@Naevia not so fast with the affordability! Northwestern has a no-loan policy. whatever you can not afford, they will make it work. http://undergradaid.northwestern.edu/docs/NoLoanPackagingPolicies.pdf

@actingdreams - Is the no loan policy for $0 EFC families? (I didn’t read it - Just recalling such policies from when my D was going to school - a few years ago.)

OK, here’s a theory on the Pace white pages. thing. Maybe people who apply to (and then confirm at auditions that they’re interested in) only ONE of the 3 acting programs have the ā€œundecidedā€ switched to either Acting, IPE or FTVC (?..i always get that acronym wrong) and people interested in 2+ programs stay marked as undecided. That would kinda make sense, right?
