BFA in Acting - What Electives are the students allowed to take?

My son just got accepted to the BFA drama program and I was wondering if he can take elective classes at the Newhouse School of Television, Radio & Film? And can he minor there?

I doubt it is possible to minor, but you’d have to check with SU.

Newhouse’s info page states that it offers the following as minors -

And, the Acting BFA at Syracuse University is a very selective and rigorous pre-professional training program. While I understand that some BFA Acting candidates are able to work in a minor, I don’t think it is easy or likley to be in Newhouse, but I may be wrong. As I understood from the info session, I believe most of these students are pretty exhausted each day by their obligations just in the Drama School. I seem to recall them debating how often they bothered to “walk up the hill” to the rest of the University, even to eat in a dining center, rather than just stay in and around the theater building - http://vpa.syr.edu/academics/drama/undergraduate/acting

Here is a link to what are considered Academic Electives, and non-lab Newhouse courses are there, so it may well be possible to take some as the 24 credits in Academic Electives required for the BFA.

Your son is both talented and lucky to have secured a spot in the BFA Acting Program - congratulations! My daughter is still anxiously awaiting to hear whether or not she has been accepted to the same program.
