Deferred early. Never interviewed. Rejection letter two days ago. 35 ACT, 760 Math Level 2, NHS Prez, 4 years football, 2 varsity. National Merit Commended. Class council, math league, junior world affairs council, chess club member. Competitive swimmer every summer since age of 8 and assistant coach last two summers. Work as a lifeguard. I guess my essays were THAT bad but whatever, congrats to all who got accepted!

And ranked 14/655.

btonybstud - Unbelievable. My son was also rejected and we were feeling bad, until we saw your stellar stats. Do you think you’ll still attend UT? S hasn’t decided yet…

BTW, if you are interested in a job teaching chess to kids (either during the summer or during the school year), PM me.

I got rejected aswell without even having an interview - 35 ACT, 3.9 GPA UW, 4.4 W, 740 Math II, 800 French, captain of varsity soccer (have been on the team since 8th grade, captain since 11th grade) along with various other important leadership roles in the school (dont really want to spill out all my details here) even started my own company last year… cant believe i didnt even get an interview

Kjb - Thx, I appreciate it, but where I will be attending is very much in the air now. If I had gotten into BHP like I was hoping, there would have been a 99% chance I’d go to UT but not getting in has dropped the school on my list. I am still waiting to hear back from other schools I applied to such as Rice and Georgetown before deciding. UT is still a viable option because of affordability, but I’m not sure if I will be attending there. Best regards to your son too!

Juicyjamba - That’s definitely what irked me the most from the process was not being given the chance to interview. You and I meet everything they said they were looking for in their rejection letter so I am at a loss of words as to why we weren’t even interviewed. I’m right there with you!

I am really just on the outside looking in, but what I do see in common in both of these rejections is lack of business type EC. I didn’t see any DECA, any business type work or volunteering, etc. This is the Business Honors Program. You went head to head with people with similar stats that more than likely had business passion in High School. They may have owned there own lawn mowing business, or focused on marketing in their high school, etc.

No one cares about BHP at McCombs, nor do recruiters. Besides, the majority of the kids in BHP are extremely unimpressive.

^

whoa, there. Your comment was absolutely uncalled for and offensive to both those who were accepted to the BHP and those who were not (great stats, btdubbs. Transferring in is definitely still an option. Don’t give up on it yet!).

Just because you are not in BHP (judging from your bitter post), does not give you the authority to relegate others’ accomplishments, which you have absolutely no knowledge of anyway, as I highly doubt you are affiliated with “the majority” of the BHP kids (and thus have no basis for your statement), otherwise you wouldn’t have made such an ignorant comment.

Lastly, there is a reason BHP only has a ~50% matriculation rate. Half choose the Ivies/other high-caliber schools. The ones that remain simply are more business-oriented and have chosen BHP over said schools. Hardly unimpressive. Don’t make ad hominem arguments.

McCombs by itself is a pretty prestigious program, even without BHP. There are LOADS of people outside of BHP that get into investment banking, consulting and all the other lucrative “sexy” careers. BHP helps, but it’s not necessarily required. I think that’s all USofPlutarchy was trying to say.

There’s this notion here on CC that if you’re not in BHP then you’re considered inferior by recruiters, and that’s simply false. McCombs is rather prestigious either way.

@andrewt787 Well, I was really responding to the “extremely unimpressive” clause, but I agree! Number 6 in the US rankings is nothing to scoff at, and I’m sure anyone in McCombs, BHP or not, is guaranteed a very nice career so long as work is put in.

Thx for the support everyone. Unfortunately, my school doesn’t offer DECA, but I understand what you’re saying collegeshopping. I had hoped my leadership in football and being NHS prez would make up for the business experience. Ah well, I have no doubt McCombs is nonetheless a great school, but I’m still just waiting for the sour taste in my mouth about it to pass LoL thx again for the words of encouragement!

awwww…tony…don’t let the taste be sour. You have every right to be disappointed, but McCombs is such a good school, and you will get very far in that program. You do have the opportunity to excel in your first semester (and that can be easier said than done) and then do an internal application. UT is a crazy wonderful place so make sure you just relax and enjoy all UT has to offer. Your major should never define you regardless.
