Based on my knowledge I am pretty sure that without an interview by a BHP alumni you don’t stand a chance of getting into BHP program. But what about how many students that do get an interview are rejected from BHP. It should be very few in my opinion but would like to hear your thoughts in case anyone has an idea. Thanks
@TinTintoo Why would you still be in the running for BHP if they aren’t giving you an interview? Wouldn’t they just notify you of the rejection?
@MOMOF5TX My son did interview last week.
I’m not questioning that but several people on the boards here have indicated those that didn’t get an interview don’t have a chance. Why would they say you’re up for admission to BHP but not give you an interview?
@MOMOF5TX I think people are saying that interview is necessary to have a chance to get in BHP because so far anyone that has been admitted has had an interview. But this is based on what people are posting. I do not know that for a fact.
@MOMOF5TX To help with the confusion, here’s what we know.
My son and I talked to the folks at BHP several times and they made it very clear you have to be interviewed or you cannot get into BHP. The website also lists it as a criteria. I have heard some who interview are not accepted, but my impression is that more who interview do get in than don’t get it. Good luck to your son!
Application Criteria
The following criteria are used in selecting candidates for freshman acceptance to BHP:
High school class rank and transcript
Evidence of extracurricular involvement and leadership skills
Note: As the academic achievements of the applicant pool improve, leadership has become increasingly important as an admissions criterion
SAT/ACT scores
Essays C from the ApplyTexas Application and choice of essay A, B, or S
Professional Resume
One letter of recommendation (electronic)
Phone interview with a BHP alumnus (by invitation only)
@SATX53 Thank you for the clarification. As a followup to your note, I have heard that a few that applied early and got interviewed were deferred to regular decision. But I have not heard that they got rejected. Do you know of any that were interviewed and then rejected? Thanks
Do the BHP decisions come out at the end of Feb/beginning of March like the regular UT applications or are they coming out earlier in waves? I had my interview two weeks ago and am just wondering when I should hear back. Also, is it a letter/email or is Mystatus just updated?
