Which bike are you guys getting? I’m debating between the One-speed cruiser (easier to maintain as there arent 20 other gears to break) and the 21-speed bike which is just more attractive.

You should get the cheapest, workable bike that you would NOT be heartbroken to loose. Lots of bikes are stolen each year, especially valuable ones. So be smart and get a cheap bike.

haha, yeah, i’m looking for a cheap bike but i do know that i want to get one with a wide seat for comfort purposes, lol. probably a cruiser for me…

the 21-speed is only $25 more than the cruiser though, not much more at all. i suppose that one gear is all that i would need on a virtually flat campus…although there are a few hills here and there. then again, if i wanted to go into the foothills it would be nice to have a 21-speed bike.

But if you do get a cheap bike (which I’m doing), how much money would you have to spend per year for bike repairs?

The order program is handy for those of us who are flying, but the bikes are just too expensive. I can’t be bothered to pay so much and then have it stolen the next day.

There are a lot of places right neart the campus to buy bikes. My son bought his first one through the preorder program (I think it is a different type than the ones offered now, so this may not apply to the current ones) but it was a piece of junk and he had to get a new one within the year (from Walmart). We thought we needed to preorder, as we were flying, but it will be very easy to shop around and get an inexpensive one once you get there, if you prefer to do that.

^ The Bike shop says it has changed providers and the new “preorder” program has much higher quality bikes. I’m not sure it that’s true though!
