Big-time college sports corrupts academics

[The Scandal Bowl: Tar Heels Football, Academic Fraud, and Implicit Racism - Businessweek](<a href=“Businessweek - Bloomberg”>Businessweek - Bloomberg)

Sorry to be such a cynic, but – other than the fact that this article names names – I’m not sure what the “news” here is. Everyone knows this has been going on at certain schools for decades.

And already discussed in this thread in the main parent forum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1598986-prof-charged-fraud-no-show-classes.html</a></p>

I agree, you are a cynic. Unfortunately, the worst kind. One that accepts the consequences of motivations that you recognize. I agree with your comment also but I would like to edit your post.

"Everyone knows this has been going on for decades. Thank Goodness that it has been exposed here. I hope that this can be used to reform the system. "

A quick Wikipedia search shows 22 tarheels as current NFL players. There are 122 players on the current roster. That’s a lot of kids who aren’t learning to fish. The suggestion that we pay them? Its a greater disservice because all it will do is give us an excuse not to teach them.

Disneydad, I accept your edit to my post. I hope it changes things.

I don’t think it will, but I hope it does.
