Big trip to faraway place essay

<p>So - Just after I finish my - How will you enrich our Community essay _ I read "Best College Admission essays. In the Do’s and Dont’s section - It clearly says - DO NOT write about your big trip to a faraway place - and how it enhanced your cultural awareness and how it taught you to accept people who were different !!! I wrote about my experience during a 4week trip one summer - working in the slums of Central America.</p>

<p>Do I start all over? Is this topic really DOA? I think my essay is good - honest and genuine - if I may say so myself -:)</p>

<p>Has anybody - who wrote about their big trip - ever gotten into a good college. I am not applying to Ivy’s. I am applying to colleges that are in the US News Rank 20 to 60.</p>

<p>^It shouldn’t be much of a problem for a lot of your schools. I think the discouragement is when your essay really needs to stand out, like it does with the very top schools.</p>

<p>Don’t consider it a far away trip…because trip sounds like vacation. consider it more like charity:)</p>
