Bigger bohemian schools

Reed was my top choice but I didn’t get in. I didn’t get enough money for Sarah Lawrence or Lewis and Clark. I am still wAighting to hear back from bard. Any schools similar to these whether they are small or large would be great

Wait, you’re still waiting to hear back from Bard now? A couple of days before August? Something’s wrong with your timeline, @frogperson33

Does this mean that you got shut out of all colleges that you applied to (and waitlisted at Bard)?

I got rejected to reed and not enough money for Sarah Lawrence and Lewis and Clark

Me getting into bars is contingent on summer melt and people not showing up to freshman orientation in the next week. Not the best situation, but that’s where I’m at @marvin100

Well, I’m not sure that going to bars is the right choice at this point in your process. Drinking won’t solve your problems.

It’s almost August. Your chances of getting off the wait list basically died weeks ago; think of the wait list in late July as a sort of comatose state, where it’s very, very unlikely that you’ll actually get in. You basically have to take a gap treat.

Maybe Beloit? What are your stats and what can you afford?

@marvin100 that should have read bard

Community colleges usually have small classes, which is one of the usual attractions of LACs.

Since it looks like you got shut out, your choices are basically either start at community college or take a year off (usually this means working to earn some money to help pay for college) and reapply to a more realistic list of colleges (both in terms of admission and affordability).

Have a look at Evergreen in Olympia Washington.
Other schools with a lower ticket price include Western Washington U and Southern Oregon U.
The other private schools with aid you may want to contact to see if they might entertain a last minute application include Drew, Clark, Beloit, Kalamazoo and Seattle U.

What is your home state?

Since you like liberal arts schools (lac), I’d suggest a public lac. They tend to be super safeties and most would probably still accept you for fall. And you should be able to find plenty of bohemians.

Hurry up!

OP has a similar thread under a different user name where it was clarified that OP is a transfer applicant, not first-year, and has admission to Bard, but is awaiting a decision on whether they can offer more financial aid. That is contingent on some students deciding to defer or cancel their matriculation. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1907758-lost-and-confused-transfer-student-p1.html

Also relevant to know is that OP has taken a gap year after 2 years of undergraduate study, and wants a mixture of boho vibe and intellectual rigor. Not sure why the new thread and the new screen name, but OP does have a new openness to larger schools that was not on offer in the prior thread.

Among colleges that still have transfer openings and financial aid for fall, Knox College stands out to me as a likely fit. Not as much of the hippie-boho, but definitely a place for quirky intellectualism. If you want to hedge your bet on Bard, it’s worth a look. Shimer is also a possible fit.

And in general, the bigger the school, the more I would focus on intellectualism vs hippie-boho culture. At most sufficiently large schools you will find enough of those kids to have a peer group, even if they are not the dominant culture on campus. It is harder to find the intellectual challenge you are seeking this late in the game, which is why I recommended SMU in the other thread. Focus your search on schools that have openings AND have a higher median SAT/ACT (you can get that info from ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■) and you should be able to turn up some additional options for yourself.
