I’m actually not a parent…I’m the senior about to go off to school, and I’m the first one in my family to be going, at that. My parents and all my aunts and uncles are all concerned and to be frank, scared to death of me going off to school (Since I will most likely be in New York, or DC). So im just curious to know…what are some of your biggest fears concerning your children leaving for college, And why ? Do you think they are academically and socially prepared ? Why or why not ?

Of course I was worried. But also excited for him. And proud. And knew I would miss him terribly. Had I remembered to teach him what he would need to know? Was he really as emotionally secure as he seemed? Had his high school prepared him for the rigors of the college would be attending?

But I come from a family where it is common and expected that college follows high school.

Your family is probably having all those feelings plus the fear of something new, something they have not, themselves experienced. Suddenly you are going off to a situation where they may be thinking they will not be able to advise and help you.
