Biggest Improvement SAT Stories

list your biggest improvment sat story it can also be psat such as soph yr psat 180 junior yr sat 210(thats not mine its just example) and how did u achieve it? books used?

PSAT. sophomore year: 184. junior year:222.
Took a couple of practice tests, including both the SAT and PSAT.

Wow, that is like a 400 point increase, and without a tutor. I hope your parents bought you a BMW 5 series of something of similar value.

I am a well-paid tutor and very few of my students have increased their score more than about 350 points.

My daughter got a a 1530 SAT as an 11 year old, and a 2020 as a 12 year old.

My friend’s 17, he goes to a course here, and he just managed a 1450. :)

Your daughter’s improvement is impressive indeed, but it’s much easier to go from 1500 to 1800 than from 2000-2300.
I am kind of more interested in reading about 300+ points improvements in higher score ranges, say 1900+.

Personally, I jumped 200 points ahead, from 1800 to a 2000. Books used::>PR cracking & Barron’s 22nd.

My verbal scores were always very high, but I raised my math score from 650 to 760 by taking practice sections (not entire tests, just the math sections) from the “blue book.” I’d taken a prep course before that, but I got a lower score after the course than I had before, so that was a huge waste of time and money.

1700(before the start of junior year)-> 2090(end of junior year june test)

did like 300 hours of prep. practice tests, exercises, etc. all self taught…

1900 (end of sophomore year) to 2340 (near end of junior year).

i concentrated ridiculously hard on the actual test.

We’ll see in June.

I got a 1990 on the SAT I in the spring of my junior year. In the fall of my senior year (Oct 2007), I managed to land a 2200. I credit the improvement to the College Board SAT book. I also felt much more relaxed the second time around while taking the actual test.

averageteen, I got 2000 in MArch, similar to your score!!
hopefully by Oct i’ll be able to land a 2200+ :stuck_out_tongue:
all you did was using the blue book?

Yes, kennyk616, all I did was use the Blue book! I was amazed at the score improvement! Trust me, you want that book.

177 - psat soph year
2120 - SAT Junior year
2240 - SAT Senior year.

Did all the prep books, Barrons 2400, Kaplan 2400, blue book. I also recommend reading british lit and economic journals.

my problem was all sentence completion though.
is blue book good enough for vocabs (sentence completion problems)?

Blue book is good enough for anything. Trust me man.

some more stories to boost up our confidence?
:P

PSAT sophmore year: 191
SAT senior year: 2340
I didn’t really do much prep (just some practice math sections from the blue book). I think my score just rose as I became more familiar with the test format. Also, I think I had a lot of test taking anxiety for the psat that went away as I became older.

I’m an international student

first practice test in gr10 : 1460
junior january sat : 1900
looking for 2150+ in october or december

I’m international too…
plz come up w/ more esteem-boosting stories! :P

I’m an international too… (ok, enough with that :))

@anyh: We’re on the same boat, by the way what’s your approach to 2150+?
