biglaw exit opportunities?

<p>assuming one doesn’t make partner after say 5-7 years at a biglaw firm, what are some realistic exit opportunities for such lawyers? what kind of salaries should these lawyers (e.g. in-house lawyers) expect, and consequently, how much of a pay cut will they have to take? </p>

<p>assuming one doesn’t want to practice in biglaw after several years or can’t make partner, should one still pursue a law degree? (i ask anticipating some people saying ibanking or other business jobs as a realistic exit opp… but then shouldn’t that person just have gotten an MBA instead?)</p>

<p>The key is to try to assess your chances of partnership while you are still marketable to other firms. That means in the 4-6 yr range. It becomes increasingly difficult to make a lateral move as you get closer to partnership. If the goal is to go in house, then the seniority is less of an issue, but you may need to be prepared to relocate and you may take a huge paycut - sometimes half of the biglaw pay for a senior associate.</p>
