bikes

i am looking to purchase a beach cruiser but i do not know if i should purchase one at the store in IV or another place? i would take a gently used bike and when should i purchase it??

any suggestions?

you could buy a lost/abandoned one at a campus auction. According to http://kiosk.ucsb.edu/ArtsEntertainment/artsenterainmentresources.asp?page=artsentertainment&subpage=artsenterainmentresources</a>

My advice is bring an inexpensive bike; they sit outside in the rain, and a nice shiny one will attract thieves.

inexpensive as in around $100? because i’ve been looking around online at walmart, target and kmart and the cheapest one i’ve seen is around that price (plus tax/shipping). do most students buy their bikes at the auction? if you know other places to buy cheap, decent bicycles, please let me know!

most students don’t buy at the auction, just wanted to point that out because it lets you avoid the hassle of bringing a bike to campus from home and my guess is the bikes are cheap; you could call/email them to get an idea of what the actual prices have been. But buying a bike for around $100 would be cheap and not one likely to get stolen (as long as you always lock it up!); by expensive I’m thinking of the fully rigged mtn or road bikes that cost from $500 to thousands.

Buy your back in early October…there’s a bike auction on campus by the UCSB Police Dept. First they have English auction then at the end of the regular auction the remaining bikes can be bought for around $20 or less ( some needs fixing).

I highly suggest going to the auction…It’s fun to watch! I will never forget when this old rusty bike with no seat was going for $80 and people started booing and shouted…" ***, look at the bike!!!" It’s really funny when clueless freshmen start bidding…heheh

I got mine for $70 but it’s a nice bike. Get there 40 mins early so u can look around for the bikes you wanna bid on…
